Help with fuel sensor???

My gas gauge is not working properly! In fact I ran out of gas on the side of the expressway a few days ago. It went from saying I had a 1/4 tank to empty within minutes. Will go from full to half, back to full then down to empty, fluctuates really bad!

I have done some searching and did find some info but I'm not really sure what exactly I need to replace. The fuel pump? The fuel sensor? My boyfriend said he would fix it for me if I could figure out what needs fixed and find something showing how to do so. Any help would be great!!!!

The fuel level sensor on the side of the pump is going to ****. Most gms do this.

Go to GMpartsdirect.com and search for part number 89060197. It should be around 90 dollars. Once you get it, get into the backseat and open the pass thru. Pull up the carpet where the carpet meets the backseat. Remove the oval cover and youll be exposed to the top of the tank. Remove the snap ring or lock ring, unplug the 2 connectors, and pull the pump out. Unclip the float, unplug it, plug the new float on, and replace it all. Takes about 45 mins.

Awesome thanks! I just had to go through replacing my blower motor and resistor I'm hoping this won't be as difficult!
