If you're going to do the cam, an IC, and pay to have the cam installed, then I say just get a used turbo kit that you can put on yourself. This would also save you the cost of headers. I'm a disabled vet too, back is jacked up, can only work on the car for so long before I can't stand so well anymore. So I try to break projects up into several days if need be, to make it manageable. Not sure if that's an option for you, having several cars helps me do it that way too.

Yea you could say my back is jacked up as well (my MOS was 89D EOD. . . explosions suck) I am looking to stay around $5-6k at the most for the build. Which I think is more than reasonable?
 


If he uses slicks/dr's he's going to have to factor trans cost into any build, though.

Edit: E85/rocker setup gets my vote, fast, easy, fairly cheap, and reliable. This saves you plenty of money to put toward the inevitable trans rebuild/replacement.
