Help me get to 12's

Alright, so in short form I want to run 12's in the 1/4 (don't care if its high or low 12's), still be my daily driver, and be reliable.

My first thought is to go for the main mods (yes supporting mods will be done as well)
1:9.1 Rockers
S2 IC from ZZP
ZZP Stainless Headers

However, I keep thinking I will kick myself if I don't go the cam route instead
XP Cam
S2 IC from ZZP
ZZP Stainless Headers

So my question is, will a rocker/IC setup possibly get my into the 12's? I don't know that I want to pay a lot more in install work to put in a cam.

before you put any money in to said GP have you thought of getting something thats faster? there are ton of good set up here if you want to copy someone else thats running in the 12's

Sure, I could get a LSX anything can be faster, but the fun for me is having a 4 door family car run 12's . I get what your saying, and appreciate it, just sticking with the GP for now.

Is E85 an option for you? Could save a lot of money using that instead of the IC, but I realize it's not as readily available as gas.

I haven't really given the E85 option much thought all though it is readily available in my state. What are the benefits of going E85?

I'll fill in for Vet on this one. E85, S1x, 2.8 will get you north of 320whp. With a little fine tuning north of 350wtq maybe even 400 is possible. 12's all day long on street tires if you can launch. You need all the supporting mods like springs, injectors, fuel pump, etc but it can be done cheap and without an intercooler. I put down 300whp on a triple sh1t tune/heatsoaked to hell with a cam and a 3.0 on e85.

But you'll be pushing the tranny to the limit at that point. Keep that in mind.

You can get into the 12's with rockers/IC and drag radials if you can launch. Otherwise it'll be tough without a cam. Just depends on how low you can go pulley wise/ how much timing you can run. Safe bet is to cam it, E85, intercooler (if you still want to), and drag radials.

Hmmm E85 does sound compelling, I may have to do some more research into it. I like the idea of having a IC to keep everything cooler, but saving the $$ and putting it towards injectors and cam install time does sound appealing.

You doing this work yourself or taking it to a shop? Cause this sounds expensive so far without any extra labor cost.

I am taking it into a shop, I am a disabled vet and am physically unable to do the upgrades myself.

You might want to ask around the forum first. Plenty of people here that wouldn't mind helping a vet/new guy with a project. I know if you were near me I would volunteer. You could probably get some of the ancillary mods done for free/beer so that could help. Either way it doesn't hurt to ask. A lot of great people on here that love cars and would be willing if they can.

Good advice I appreciate that. I know the shop that I was thinking of taking it to was going to cut me a deal but yea I am still going to be paying a good amount. I will ask around on the forum when I get the parts all purchased.

E85 is the hands down way to go. It will keep things cool, safe and give you loads of head room for power! XP/S1X Cam , headers and a pulley drop and you'll be pumping out 12s all day long. Put some cash on the side for the input shaft and or chain you will break eventually and live life

Price difference wouldn't be to far off compared to a cam, IC setup with all the install time. But I digress, who doesn't love the S/C whine.

If you're going to do the cam, an IC, and pay to have the cam installed, then I say just get a used turbo kit that you can put on yourself. This would also save you the cost of headers. I'm a disabled vet too, back is jacked up, can only work on the car for so long before I can't stand so well anymore. So I try to break projects up into several days if need be, to make it manageable. Not sure if that's an option for you, having several cars helps me do it that way too.

What's your budget for this project?

Price for a turbo will easily triple. The trans build alone is around 5000-10000 dollars
