Help !!!Looking into buying a 2008 GXP

I just need some insight on what to look for on this car. What are some of the main problems with this year (or years). This one has 86,0000 miles on it with navigation and all the Gxp features. As far as price they want $13800.00 for it and that just seems high?? For a 08' the paint looks really good for the year and the interior is almost perfect except for the driver seat wear on the door side. Any help would be greatly appreciated on this.....

Thanks

I was thinking around 11,000 to 11,500. Here's the KBB

Kelley Blue Book

Common problems are the trans in the GXP's, many get rebuild by 80k and most do by 100k. It is the same trans as what's put on the GTP's but the GXP has much more power, stock vs stock.
Other than that, the common problems are similar to all other Grand Prix's 97-08, mainly a bunch of little things here and there. I don't own a gxp, and I'm not sure if there are any gxp specific common problems or not. There are a good number of GXP owners on the site, hopefully they stop by.

Make sure u let the transmission get to full operating temperature...like 170+ minimum to see if its slipping or any things. Also see if an after market tranny cooler is already on it

13,800 is way to much for 86000 miles I got my 06 with 69k for 10,200...not the best price but fair. You can get a better deal on it I'm sure. Or just keep shopping. If I could do it over again I'd look for a disgruntled owner who has issues with the car and buy it cheap off of them. Once you purchase a Gxp though, I highly recommend these simple things. Tune up, trans fluid filter change and tune. They can help your gxp last a lot longer

If you do pay that much make sure it has a great powertrain warranty. And hope both the engine and transmission both take a dump while under warranty. ;)

I don't understand why someone even consoders a GXP when Camaros(LS1) and Trans Ams can be purchased for the same amount and some can be found for less.

x2 id like to see you daily an F body with 2 car seats........... way to go apples to oranges smart guy
Lol, I do it in my GTO, did it in a mustang, and would have no issues doing it again in a TA. Thanks for playing please drive though smart guy. And furthermore there was NO mention of this being considered for a family until after i posted double smart guy. His car he can do what he wants, but terrible car if mods are even being considered.

Another concern is the engine burning oil due to displacement-on-demand. Some people have problems with it, some don't. A lot of people tune it out because it slightly messes with fuel economy. Another aspect is the cost to modify the car is going to be exponentially higher than a S/C car. And the transmission is also a concern as stated by everyone. For that price it seems way to high. If the car had less than 50k miles I would say that is even higher.

Well a gxp is basically a modded gtp, kinda. GTP's can get up to 300 hp with lots of time and some money put to modding.
Buying a gxp puts you right there instantly, plus all of the other perks and things you get with gxp's. And you also get a good sounding car with a v8, that's a big plus.

A moderately modified L32 will outperform a stock LS3. You can pick up an 04-08 L32 car with decent mileage for a fair price. Put a few bennies under the hood, and it will be quicker than the LS3.

Don't get me wrong I like the GXP's, but I have a severe hate for the 4T65E-HD. Not to mention you are still well under 300whp with the GXP. Mod for mod the L32 or L67 is better buy. As far the sound goes its still a transverse engine and sounds like **** at WOT.

I smell some butt hurt..... every car is gonna have some strengths and weaknesses pretty simple g8 rwd vs gxp fwd do you have snow where you live or not let's be realistic yes you can drive a rwd daily in the winter does it suck yup id rather drive a fwd gxp and not to mention not everyone needs a 10 second daily driver lmfao.......... back to what I said apples to oranges guy the op was talking about a gxp and you ramble about a rwd 2 door that's 2 strikes in the wrong direction they way I see it.

Butt hurt? Far from it, it's the internet guy. And once again you failed to see that his post mentioned anything about snow. Please quote where he said that. The only person that has mentioned anything about a 10 second daily is you. And if one is concerned about driving in snow then why even bother looking at a FWD. Common sense would tell me that I would be better off buying something with 4wd or AWD. But then again common sense isn't too common nowadays.

It's an ls4 in the gxp and a headered pullied gtp is faster.

A tuned Gxp will be neck and neck however these are all hypothetical. By the time you get done raping your v6 for v8 power the cost will no longer be a factor depending on where you get you're parts and who tunes your vehicle. However on thing is fact you cant beat a Gxp for sex appeal compared to your whining v6 and that ungodly wot exhaust note. The Gxp has a lot of creature comforts that make it being worth a little extra cash. Not everyone is racing their gp's 24/7
