harmonic balancer removal

I read the how to post to change my crankshaft position sensor... one step is to remove the harmonic balancer. How can I get that bolt out? I try and loosen it and the whole crank spins...am I doing something wrong... help would be great I was reading that people put a breaker bar on and jammed it into the ground and cranked the motor. Is this how I need to do it?

Jack up car and pull RF wheel. Put a socket and a breaker bar on the crank bolt, and put the handle of the breaker bar against the ground. Have a buddy floor the gas and start the car (flooring the gas will stop the car from actually starting). The starter motor will break the crank bolt loose for you.

A safer way to stop the car from starting might be to just unhook the fuel pump fuse/relay, or disable spark

So gettting that bolt out was cake walk...now how do I get the d*** thing off. I read the how to on fixing my crankshaft position sensor it basicall just says you have to remove the harmonic balancer... ok I got the center bolt out I hooked up the duck foot puller and screwed in the center screw and nothing...I admit I'm a new guy at this I've never done this before but I'm in the home stretch now I just need to get the balance off and it will not budge an inch... please help before I just set fire to my car and call it a day

I have one...no instructions but I have the kit...I read online that you need to use the duck foot piece, screw in the 3 screws to the balancer through the duck foot piece, then screw in the center screw....well it still wouldn't budge and I almost had the center screw all the way in.

You have to make sure you have the right size screws for the 3. I had to use some different than what my puller came with.

You have to use force once the middle bolt touches the balancer bolt (which should be loosened almost all the way out) and just keep going. It will pull out.

I read that how to article... but no where does it give the new guy...such as myself... an exact explaination on how to get the balancer off once the center bolt is out. I hate to put all this back together with out fixing the problem.

Yea I went and bought the m6 1.00 75 mm in length bolts. They weren't in the kit. I just feel like I'm doing something wrong the center screw was pretty much all the way in and the balancer did not move at all.

Ok so this might be a dumb question and perhaps where I messed up. I need to keep the balancer bolt in there and screw the puller bolt down on to the balancer bolt?

I got it! Just took a beating. I was afraid to hit it I was sure if I would damage anything the pusher rod was in as far as I could turn but tapped a few times and got it...I had a torch and gas ready!
Now its off to try and remove this plastic piece without breaking it
