ok guys. about 3,000 miles ago I did an upper and lower intake and upper and lower coolant elbow replacement.
after 1,000 miles the upper cracked and started leaking.
replaced them both again with the GM ones.
500 miles later, after stopping at a railroad and taking off (fairly hard) my upper intake elbow blew COMPLETELY off.
completely out, bouncing off my fuse box and laying in my engine bay.
both times they were done professionally.

btw.. when it flew off it covered the car BEHIND me in coolant. enough for him to use his wipers.
anyone ever seen this? WHY is my car creating this rediculous amount of pressure on the cooling system? I didn't even think they could possibly come out.
any ideas?

Yea i dont see how theyd just come out...maybe you need a coolant flush to get some crap out of there.

I had a customer 2 weeks ago who blew a hose off because the previous owner did something with stop leak shortly before the new owner bought it, it gunked up his radiator cap so bad that it wasnt relieving pressure to the overflow, he replaced the cap and he was all good, came back to see me today.

replaced cap. replaced elbows.

blew off again today, leaving me stranded.

ANY IDEAS?!?!

I hate to say it but next time you bring it in to have them work on it have them run the car with the cap off and do a block test on it this doesn't seem right. Let us kno what they say!

so its blowing out on one piece? or breaking first, then blowing out?

they are locked in by a right angle. the only thing i can think of is they left a broken off piece in the lim hole or alt bracket.

or you have a bad head gasket and its pushing exhaust gasses into he coolant and its getting over pressurized.<<<<<unlikely.

Idk my black car did this once. It didn't completely blow out but enough to spew coolant all over the place.

projectile coolant is an ugly thing I had my TB go out and shoot it all over my pcm and intake shortly after I seafoamed but make sure you wipe that **** up good it is so harmful to just about everything it touches.

as far as the elbows go you got me im kinda curious what the next weak link is
ie. you replace the elbows for aluminum ones and are still building pressure whats the next thing most likely to blow (sceery face)

I replaced mine in march and I had the top one explode into a million pieces. Ive replaced the radiator water pump thermostat and all hoses. But somehow I blew another one about 1,000 miles ago. Where can I buy these aluminum coolant elbos you speak of?
