GT to GXP brake setup?

I'm sure this has been beat to all hell by us newer folks, but I couldn't find a definite answer. 2007 Grand Prix GT. Brake are starting to squeek the odd time and I have a slight wobble from heavier braking, not at a point of needing to be changed yet. But when I have to do the pads next I was thinking I would just simply replace the calipers and rotors as well with the gxp set if it's a direct bolt in.

My searches seem to say it's the exact same fitment aside from fitting the rims, and also that they use different bolts from I think F-body? I could be wrong. Would I be able to pull mine off an throw in the GXPs?

gxp brakes are a direct bolt on. You need brake lines, calipers, brackets, and rotors. You'll need 17" rims to clear them.

I have these 17"s, do you know offhand if they're enough of an offset? I hear some 17"s still dont clear

Correct. Can you tell us what rims those are? Are they OEM from another car, customs?

As far as I've been able to find, they are stock. I'll see if I can dig some info up on them

For how cheap the 06+ dual piston Impala calipers are at this point, I'd honestly get those if I were in your position. Those plus the rotors and pads wouldn't be that much more expensive, would give you better stopping distance, and even fit under stock 16's should you ever run them. Just my 2¢.

Thanks for the advice! One of the reasons i would do this would be for the aggressive look of course along with the better stopping capabilities. This car is my daily driver so I have no "real" need for better braking over stock. But I figured if I was replacing some anyways why not add some more meat lol

I know what you mean, same reason I'm putting a set on this summer :D I'll rarely if ever use all the braking power my car has, especially since it's a slow N/A loaded with audio equipment, but I like knowing I have plenty of stopping power in reserve should I ever have to panic stop. Plus they just look badass compared to our wimpy stock calipers :P

The stock front brakes suck on these cars. Not sure if they improved on the 07's, but I know that the improvement I got from switching to 06+ Imp brakes on my 00 GT was night and day. I drive a lot and have had to lay on them really hard to avoid some other "drivers" and never had an issue. Sets down nice and quick and ABS doesn't freak out. Stock 06 Imp rotors/calipers and Wagner Thermo-Quiet ceramic pads. Pads cost more than the entire setup from the JY, lol.. Those GXP brakes should give you the same results I would think.

I beleive 04-08 was a bit larger, but don't quote me lol but it is a 4 door Pontiac so they're not going to be corvette worthy :P but compared to my old car with drums for the rears and etc, it's a world of improvement lol so I haven't looked at the 06+ implalas yet, do you know what specs they are? I know going just for looks is pointless in some eyes, but I love the look of a larger drilled/slotted roter and the painted calipers are never a downside :P

07 GXP rotors are 12.7". The Imp brakes are 12" rotors, dual piston iron calipers (same as F-body's just not aluminum). Some say there is less flex using them vs. fbody. I've never driven an F-body swapped GP before so I don't know for sure. All I needed to do was bend the tab that holds the brake hose away from the body a bit to be sure I wouldn't stretch the hose and still have it clear the tires.

There have been claims F-body's clam shelling but it has never happened when I ran them on the GTP. I run C5 calipers now. I really think if your hard on your brakes that could easily happen but for a daily driver I doubt it.

I also ran the 06+ impalas on my Buick when I had it. To be honest they felt better than the F-bodys and that might had to do with there was no pedal travel loss. The F-bodys stop great, but you only really noticed when you were hard on the brakes.

With that said I dont think the GXP's are cost effective when compared to the 06+ implalas. I'm not even sure if you can find many sets anymore.
Plus behind your 17s the 06+ implalas will look nice.
