• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Got this deal on a Trans Am

Ok I couldn't help it, I bought it. Just picked it up now. After all the feedback I got about how it should be faster than the GTP it got me thinking that perhaps it might be the CATs that were clogged considering how it felt and I was right. I just scanned it and it has codes for both CATs, MAF low signal and the EVAP.

I was planning on deleting the CATs anyway, so I'm doing that later today or tomorrow. I'm not sure about the MAF, what kind of maf do the LS1 has? Lq4?

yup.... I took it to the exhaust shop, it had a couple of crappy CATs, not even the factory ones. Heavily clogged the inlet and outlet was smaller than the stock pipes too.... that sh1t was choking.

I also took out the MAF, cleaned it, it was full of crap too, leafs and sh1t. Cleaned the TB, new air filter. The car came back to life, NOW I believe it could beat the GTP. I still need to change the plugs, wires, gas filter and oil change tomorrow, it should probably get even better. Steering end links are shot too.

I'm glad I bought it, it's a fun ride. It just needed a little work done to it.

Not bad! That's some easy fixes for sure. Kinda worry's ya a little bit about how the previous owner treated it but Damn it sure looks clean!

I was gonna say, how does your gp beat a Ls1 fbody, but your last post makes sense, I would also flush out the coolant and check the trans fluid.

hahaha, you must have mistaken the accelerator pedal for the brake. That ls1 trans am should beat it as is, if not then theres something wrong.

headers
catback
tune

easy, easy, easy 12's with drag radials

edit- remove those stupid 20's
They'll run 12's stock. A mustang magazine even said so ;)

minus the plugs...those is fuuuuunnnn :) congrats though! needs gears and stall...then it will decimate all! with no parts from japan even

Congrats on the purchase

Now make a ride thread and take a crap ton of pictures. Unless you've already made one and I missed it.

crap, I haven't been able to find any aftermarket parts vendors that ship to Mexico. Which are the main brands for LS1 stuff? I've already tried SLP and Fbody store, but FAIL

I tried them both. They do ship here, but via UPS only. example:

LS1 lid price is $98.00 plus $164.00 dollars of shipping lmao.

I'm going to try and get the lid and filter from the forum sales instead. I also found a guy in Mexican side of the border that sells the speed daddy headers. I also need to sell my DHP and get HP tuners.

So I'm going for lid, filter, long headers, Y pipe (done locally) and tune to get started. I'll probably consider gears and 3800 stall if it doesn't impact MPG a lot, it's still planned to be a daily driver.

I finished with the basic maintenance by the way. it runs hard, but i'm almost 100% sure it doesn't beat the GTP. I'll take it to the track this Friday to confirm.

But it doesn't surprises me since it's already known that NA cars are more impacted by higher altitudes than forced induction cars.

Either you have a bit done to the 3rd gen or your gtp is in need of some work. 3rd gens are pretty slow stock.
