ok i need help with figuring out what is going on with my engine and how to fix it. whenever i mess around a bit use the gas alot this is what happens. i just put in a zzp pcm. i have a 3.35 pulley 160 t-stat autolite 103 racing plugs cold air intake cat,resinator,u-bend delete. my air fuel ratio quage reads rich when im heavy on the throttle. so im assuming this is causing the manifolds to heat up. what can i do to fix????

1 You probably have a clogged Cat unless you have it removed I couldn't really decipher.
2 You're running way to small of a pulley for the modifications done to your vehicle. Also with you being in Michigan that 160* T-Stat is hurting you more than it's helping you same goes with the Autolite 103's.

I have tons more mods than you do and i'm not even running autolite 103's. That sparkplug is way to cold for your setup. Your running rich due to your engine running too cold with the spark plugs and tstat you currently have.

Get a 180* T-Stat, Autolite 605's and put your stock pulley back on before you really hurt your motor.

Scan for KR and if you have 0* after this then drop down to Autolite 104's and a 3.4 pulley at most and scan for KR again. If you don't have 0* of knock and your still running rich ditch the zzp computer and have your stock one tuned by a knowledgeable individual who is familiar with our cars. That is the only way to get your car running the best it possibly can with the mods you currently have.

Also give this thread a read. It might help ya a bit.

a car running rich wont make the manifolds glow red. timing being off or running very lean will cause it.

Low timing can cause a cars manifolds to heat up. Esp if your knocking and its pulling Timing at WOT to keep you from blowing up....

To my understanding anyways.

Also I just saw that you have an a/f gauge is it a wideband by chance ? If not sell it. They're not good for anything else but a light show. (Not very accurate) Don't feel bad about it I've had one too ;) Someone will want it regardless. I bet you could get 20-30 out of it shipped.

I only have a narrow band a/f guage. I don't have a cat. I deleted the cat u-bend and resinator. There is 3" pipe there now. Ok I've gotten rich and lean comments. I know I'm running rich because the guage says so and I smell it in the exhaust. I will be putting the stock pulley back on for sure!! And get different plugs also! Would a 3.4 pulley be good? Thank you all for your feedback!!! More would be great!! I'm also putting on an egr delete plate. Would this help too?

ur best bet is to get headers... they can be had for 200 bucks to ur door. then worry about dropping pulley size. if u keep getting into boost its only a matter of days before u toast ur engine.

I lol'ed....High EGTS are usually cause by Lean conditions or by Low timing. Which would probobly be the cause on yours. You're probobly seeing a boatload of KR and its killing timing. You dont have crap for mods go to a 3.8 pulley. Narrowband A/F gauge is worthless at Wideopen throttle reading. You also need to get plugs in your proper heat range. I run 103's but I have a decent list of mods Fwiw.

Further more High Exhaust temps can cause major expensive problems quickly

OMG,

A new person that actually listens to others comments when they start off modding incorrectly! Awesome that your taking our advice. There's alot of good knowledgeable people here. Go for some Autolite 104's, EGR delete is ok but your car has to be tuned for it. Take care of that down the road, like if you decide to get headers do it then. Also i meant what i said about that gauge. They really are not accurate at all unless it's a wide-band. Sell it and put the money toward some headers.

A 3.4 pulley would be good if you have 0* KR. You just need to find someone that can scan your car. If you like gauges look into a Aeroforce. It can scan for KR and other things.

FWIW im not tuned for EGR delete. other than having a code, my car runs fine.

Well that's kinda what I was getting at it will throw a SES light. I just didn't take the time to explain that. IE having it tuned for the EGR Delete will fix the problem.
