Gen V - Cammed - E85 Build Begins

Just began a new build, right when I thought I would steer away from Montes.


Going to be a Gen V, S1x, Lightly ported heads and e85 build.


This will max out the stock heads and give me a chance to upgrade heads in the future.


I just picked up the Gen V today, N*, MAF and adapter are on the way.


Still not sure what I'm going to do for the motor. I may be going with an L32 or jumping straight to the L67, it all depends on what I can find.


Here's what I have right now, this blower was in a fire, not warped, everything is cosmetically okay and there is zero play in the pulley and the pulley spins freely. Still even about 95% of the coating on the rotors.

This thing is cleaning up quite nicely, I don't have much for wire wheels on my dremel, so it will only get better once I get some of those in.

Went to Ace today and got some new stuff to get this snout off, going to need an impact though more than likely in order to get it off. You can also see the color I decided to paint, going to be a stock looking build but with some more accents of which will be seen when I get the engine. It's an aluminum silver.

Went through a whole battery as well with the wire wheel, this thing is cleaning up surprisingly easy and well.

Will get a bit more today and this weekend when I can get it apart fully and degrease the whole thing, hopefully paint this weekend as well.

I've considered it but heard that many people would have rather gone with the S1x, so I kind of swayed that way.
 
Guess its sort of a acquired taste then I wanted and prefer a xp cam because of the nice dyno number's.. with little valvetrain work too

Any comparison dyno charts? I've read lots of people liking them both pretty equally
 


Couple of questions before bed that don't have to be answered this instance.

I'll be getting an L67, anything I should be especially worried about when looking for one?
Any parts that I may miss with this build that may not be bad to order ahead of time?
With mildly ported heads (mainly exhaust and intake runners, cleaning up cast) what size pulley should I expect to run?

Shouldn't be too difficult of a build, but I haven't dug into an engine before so this will be a first for me :D
 
I dont know what kind of power you plan to make or what your goals are for the car but i would go with quite a bit of compression, l26 and either mill the heads a little or use the thinner 3 layer head gaskets, keep the timing pretty close to stock and pully down it will make great power, add an intercooler and headers and it will be a hell of a build
 


No need to drop the compression.

Just keep the timing between 14-16* and you'll be fine.

Adjust pulley for more/less power and KR.

thanks, I'm waiting on a couple of things in the mail for the dremel to make the whole thing a bit easier, I did get a bit further, going to soak in some degreaser and scrub and then keep wire brushing.

This is how far I ended up getting tho, only about an hour put in.

Those retarded bolts are soaking in WD40, but i'm thinking i'll need some heat, or something..

How much power are you putting down?

I have not hit the dyno yet since converting to e85. However on a very mild 93 tune of only 15* timing and a mid 11's afr, it put down 287whp and 324lbs torque on a 3.0 pulley. That was also on a mustang dyno, so the numbers would have been higher if it were a dynojet. Now I'm on e85 and 18* timing and it feels like it picked up a good 10-15whp. I'm gonna drop to a 2.8 after winter and hit the dyno again. Hoping for 330-340whp.

Very nice, I'm hoping for the 300ish whp range when this build is done, without getting too far into heads.

Also wondering if there's a specific gasket kit that I should look into for this build, Gen V, Northstar with adapter (adapter doesn't have the gaskets on it). So basically I'll need every gasket from the heads up, L32 TB gasket and northstar gasket?

Just for the simplicity of the build I think I'm going to go with L32 or L67.

With either of those, Gen V, e85, mildly ported heads, Northstar, headers and 3" exhaust, what is a reasonable sized pulley? Enough to run a 3.2?
