Gear Ratio Change

i have a grand prix with the 4t65e transmission and its starting to slip. Im looking at buying a 4t65e hd tranny to replace it but i want to keep the 3.29 gear ratio. How do i do this? Do i just swap the differential before i put my tranny in? thanks for the help

Keep the HD differential, and it's not where the gear ratio is. I I believe it's in the chain/cogs, and but don't quote me on that.

Why not just put another trans with the 3.29 gear ratio? You'll need a new cv joint on the passenger side if you go with the hd trans.

Because i may be buying a gtp that has some fender damage but runs fine and top swapping mine. Since my tranny is about to go out i was going to swap them also but i want the 3.29 gear ratio.

I'm not certain what needs changed out. I'd stick with the 2.93 though. You'll get better gas mileage.

With 3.29's you'll have more wheel spin. I've ridden in a car with 3.29's and they had a hell of a time with wheel spin.

True i didnt really think off that and i dont really want to but new rims and tires. So if i swap trannys when i order the pcm for the top swap do i just put 2.93 in the gear option?

Yeah where are you ordering your tune from? You'll benefit greatly from an in car tune so that way you can make sure everything is good before you leave the place.

I was going to get a zzp tune for starters so that i can drive the car until i can get a dyno tune or have someone who knows what there doing tune it.

Not sure on the mustang as i don't know what they run but I rode in my buddies ls4 monte ss and I didn't think it was that fast.

I haven't really raced anything worth while. I'm hoping to intercool soon and get it to the strip and see what i can run.

Im just trying to get an idea on how fast a top swap with a 3.2 or 3.4pulley (depending on kock)intercooled,headers,180therm,CAI, and shift kit would run

I like my 3.29s except for the gas mileage thing, which really isn't that even that different. These cars need more gearing. My suggestion is to get the non-hd trans and switch out the differential. The reason the tires spin is because your tires are putting more power to the ground.

not the most educated on gear ratios here, but wouldnt the 2.93's have better top end and be better on the highway?
