gas mileage

Just thought about this, is it really necessary to run Premium in my GTP? I know it calls for it, but I have to run that in it. I usually just use the middle grade

Want knock and ping or a better chance at internal damage?

The highest grade fuel is needed to reduce the chance of knock. Run a lower grade in a pinch but if you ever want to get on it, then having a lower grade fuel going into the engine can hurt it.

The formula for getting an accurate gas mileage figuring

Fill the tank up till it auto stops pumping the fuel

Write down cars mileage or reset one of the trip mileage things

Drive.

Next fill up go till the pump clicks off again

Take the current mileage and subtract how many miles u had last fill up. Take that number and divide it by how many gallons u put into the car.

That answer = your average MPG's

Lol. I wouldn't do this test to know how much is my mpg.

If my engine will drink the last drop in the tank it will die for good/will need new injectors.

I bet I have so much dirt there.

Dirt and debris will only enter the tank if its been opened up before, like if you took the fuel pump out or you ran forever without the fuel cap.

I had 120,000 miles on my stock pump when I installed a new level sensor, tank was super clean on the inside.

And yeah if you are indeed only getting 20 mpg, then you have something wrong with the car, or your level sensor is lying to you and you really have more fuel that you think.

But do what marines said. Every time you get gas, fill the tank. Anytime afterwards when you fill it again, you will put the exact amount of fuel in because it holds a determined amount. You just take the miles and divide it by the amount of fuel that you added to get it completely full. Whether it be that you ran it almost empty, or only let it get to the 3/4 mark, it doesn't matter. That's how I was figuring mine since I don't have the advanced DIC.

Every fill up I reset my trip B on the DIC and usually drive til it gets to the orange zone above empty. Most times I get about 260-290 miles by that point(90% city driving). And thats flooring it several times between fillups and a full tank lasts me exactly a week, 8-9 days if I go nowhere on my days off. So if my math is right, im getting around 17-19mpg city. Not too bad

My 00 3.1 went from 300 per tank to 250 a tank from turbocharging it. I imagine if i wasn't boosting everywhere i went id be a little better!
