• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

FWI installed!! ...still not getting full boost though...

I just put in a homemade fenderwell intake (CAI) last night. Man, it's awesome to actually hear that supercharger workin! Now I just need to figure out why I'm not getting full boost....

It's always seemed kinda low, even on WOT....last night, I was only getting 80% boost on a sprint from 0-70... I have always had this issue, even adjusted the blower bypass valve.. oh well, at least I can hear it now!

For the FWI, I used 3" pipe, and a 75* elbow (what they had at the store) and a cheap spectre filter from Checker. Pics later...

3"? Why not 4?

Your probably not getting all your boost because of a very small vacuum leak or you adjusted the bypass wrong. Put it back to the way it was stock

The store didn't have enough for a 4" intake, and I don't have big plans for the GP. If I were to get everything for a 3.4 setup, I'll probably upgrade to 4" or TDC. This was fine for now.

I'll have to check on the vac leak/bbv later to night.

GTPJOE, I don't know what you said.

matt5112, sorry, but I'm lost, and have know clue what you are implying.

Thanks,
Jesse

I was implying knock retard might be in play here but that actually can't affect the amount of boost. The most logical answers would be a leak.

Joe to English:

"4" for the mother f*cking win"

to

"4" fenderwell intake is the way to go"

If in doubt, use google.

what are you using to monitor your boost? How do you know that you are only getting 80% boost. Pleae tell me you are using something other than your DIC gauge.

Went over all the vac lines and FWI connections with carb cleaner last night to see if there were any leaks, and found nothing. I also put the BBV back to the factory location. It seems to have helped a little, but usually, it'll start out lower and it'll have to build up to full boost.

All I've got is the DIC. I don't have a real boost gauge....yeah yeah yeah, get the fancy one that plugs into the OBDII port...don't have the cash right now. However, I'll look and see if there's anyone local with a scan tool, I think there might be someone.

Say I do find a scan tool, what would I be looking for as far as boost, as would it be registering in PSI vs %?

Thanks,
Jesse

anything that truly measures boost will be in PSI.........if you have a stock pulley your max PSI should be somewhere in the 7-8.5 or so range when maxed out at shift change........if you are seeing that you are good. The "gauge" in the DIC is not accurate at all as far as boost readings.......does it feel like you are getting max boost out of it? I am not familiar with the xp plug what are those ( ie...copper, platinum, iridium etc.)?

So is it typical for boost to be steady, then increase for the shift change, because I've noticed that as well (on my DIC of course)

XPs are iridiums...autolite is running a rebate for this year too! ($2.00 off iridiums...&.50 off coppers, and ranges inbetween as well.

In a normal programmed vehicle your boost should decrease( bled off) during shift changes to make it easier on the transmission. I assume that you know that if you want optimum performance you should be running the copper plugs-although you do have to change them far more often. The bottom line is if you are going to make claims that you aren't making full boost, you need to have a real gauge or monitoring device(scanner) to see it in PSI to see if you really do have a problem. Does it feel like you are getting full boost or not?

Only having the car for 2 months, I really can't tell if I'm getting full boost... but it does "feel" like there should be a lot more there. I guess where I'm at, I need to get it hooked up to a scanner to see. ...then again, I'm also at 6000 feet in Colorado, so I can't even put anyone back in there seat just by accelerating.

I can tell you that the new plugs woke it up, and the FWI sounds great, but yeah, no idea what that translates into real world performance as I have nothing to baseline anything. I just don't believe that by adding a downpipe and a 3.4/3.5 pulley and a tune that I'd be hanging with LSXs... car just seems too slow. Ahh, enough bench racing for now...

I have no experience with high altitudes, but that may have something to do with it....It is so hard to tell, and without you knowing what it should feel like, it is hard to tell. Mine felt kind of slow too when I bought it. Then I changed oil, tranny pan drop and filter change, new copper plugs, new wires, new SC oil, and the FWI....it seeemed to wake it up after all that a little bit.

yeah, SC oil was the first thing that was changed.. I just don't trust that the dealer did it...they probably didn't even know that you could do it. haven't dropped the tranny pan yet...
