Fullblown rice car 99 gtp. Might go bye bye

The 1999 GTP, putting a stop to the weight reduction!

Finally got all the rivets out of the factory side skirt brackets and managed to start putting an end to the weight loss! Went ahead and smacked all the loose stuff away with a hammer and got a few coats of rustoleum rust reformer thrown on the bottom of the car. Should be getting washed out, filled with spray foam (to hopefully prevent any more salt or other debris from getting in there), covered in bondo, and then remounting the side skirts and fixing the rest of the body kit. I'll make sure I get pictures before filling anything up, I'm pretty sure the amount of rust will come pretty close to be as bad as dsmuts. As in I had to pull on of the front fenders (that was rusty at the bottom so I could just tear the sheet metal to remove it) to treat the rest of the rust.

Did I also mention that I found a rats nest in there? Probably shaved atleast 10-15 pounds of rust of this thing.

It's amazing what happens in 126,000 miles.

These pictures are after putting on the rust reformer....

Re: The 1999 GTP, putting a stop to the weight reduction!

Oh jeez that's not nearly as bad as mine was lol

Re: The 1999 GTP, putting a stop to the weight reduction!

Eh i guess i should have had pics of it in the air. Oh well, hopefully its done eating itself....

Oh and one weird thing was that only one strut tower in the rear was rusting, the other looked near new.

Re: The 1999 GTP, putting a stop to the weight reduction!

Lets just throw up a couple of photos of the progress that has been made on the car....

Re: The 1999 GTP, putting a stop to the weight reduction!

is your 02 extension touching the pipes on the back manifold? if so re route that so it dont melt.

Re: The 1999 GTP, putting a stop to the weight reduction!

It's not. Right now the wires are really tight so it is up against the "transmission" tunnel. I guess it just looks like they are touching in the picture I took, my camera is being stoopid right now so I had to use my brothers Ipod.

Re: The 1999 GTP, putting a stop to the weight reduction!

Now seems like a good time to update this old thread. Was my brothers car for about a year and a half until someone slid through a stop sign in front of our house about a month ago. Since the insurance company totaled it I decided to buy it back and fix it back up and this is the result so far.

Went from this.....

Still needs some work done to it but since I have my nice low miles gtp I figured I would keep this one around as a budget build raunchy sort of fun car.

Re: The 1999 GTP, putting a stop to the weight reduction!

I know how much you guys like hood pins.....especially in gtx hoods.

Why the hood pins? The hood is in sad shape (splitting in half at the front seam, cracks in the glass, and the paints all wrinkled up) and I'd much rather keep the hood that's the same color as the rest of the car (for the most part) than throw on a black steel hood.

Function> form is pretty much how I would describe this car in a nutshell

Re: The 1999 GTP, putting a stop to the weight reduction!

Just because you have a hood in bad condition, doesn't mean it needs hood pins.

Is it not latching or something? If anything, shorten the cables on the hood pins. Way to long.

Re: The 1999 GTP, putting a stop to the weight reduction!

like I said the upper and lower portion of the leading edge of the hood are separated so at any speed over 40 mph the hood would start flopping in the wind. I even had the hood almost fly up one time when I hit 115 mph so the pins were a must.

Well maybe you shouldn't drive 115mph. Lol

At least somehow make those cables on the hood pin cables shorter.

Re: The 1999 GTP, putting a stop to the weight reduction!

I'll probably just end up getting some shorter ones eventually, as for now though it will be nice to just be able to drive down the interstate and not worry about having a hood fly up and smash the windshield. lol

Not much going on with the car really. A few days ago I decided that since the car wasnt selling that I was just going to hold onto it until I moved out of state. With that decision I grabbed the set of rims I had sitting in the back of my garage for the last 8 months, threw some dip on them, and bought some used tires and threw them on the car. It now drives much better now that I dont have the cruddy, unbalanced, shoulder worn tires and wheels on it anymore. Also looks alot better with these different wheels in comparison to the casinos.

I also decided to repair the once again smashed up front lip and my leaky header gasket so I bought a new gasket from the dealer and picked up some flat black spray paint but forgot to grab bondo and spray foam (the spray foam is sprayed behind the crack to hold it together and provide structural integrity). Yes the spray foam works because the lip was doing just fine until the tow truck rammed into it lol.

Of course the day after I decided to keep it I have had three people contact me trying to buy it as soon as humanly possible. So who knows maybe the car will be gone this weekend.

The car on stockers...

New wheels.... 18x8.5 in the front and 18x8 in the rear. Idk why the po wanted slightly staggered wheels because I honestly cant tell the difference with the tires on the wheels lol.

Re: The 1999 GTP, putting a stop to the weight reduction!

Oh yeah and since my last update somebody decided they wanted my $50 amazon amp more than I did lol $80 later and I had another amp and had a new window installed in the car.

Didn't take the headunit, amp for my speakers, or my sub. Which I guess to be fair its only a $50 sub and I got the deck off some guy on craigslist for next to nothing lol.

Yeah but luckily since the window has been broken out before and the regulator has gone bad, I have become a master at changing the window out lol. Took me an hour and that includes the drive to the jy, pulling the window after searching for it, driving home, and then putting it in my car. Just for reference the jy is about 5 miles out

Well the car is gone and so is my other white 88k mile gtp. Kind of weird being grand prixless for the first time in about 4 years, however it does have its perks.

Mine are on the left and mamas cars are on the right (well someone bought the vette today so she just has the 2SS). But yup 2 months ago I had 4 cars (the 2 gtps, the intrepid with the ram bar that my sister is paying me for, and my very first car my Iroc) and then until 2 days ago I was down to just the stang (was having issues with the Camaro). That being said I was not able to wait for the stang I had ordered and had to "settle" if you will for this black 50th Anniversary premium package manual ecoboost (I had ordered a deep impact blue performace pack manual ecoboost with recaro seats). Also since I was quitting my job and moving to South Carolina the salesman said that I had to have the sale finalized before putting my two weeks in or I wouldn't get the sweet D-plan pricing so...... that's where I am with that.

Have had quite a few headaches with getting the car since I picked it up two weeks ago today (had it clear bra'd and tinted and it came back with rock chips including a big one in the windshield as well as some scuffs on the bumper and some new lateral G records set by whoever drove the car, found out after the fact that 600 bucks only gets 10" of the hood and fender clear bra'd and not the whole entire front bumper as well like they implied, oh and the check engine light popped on at 450 miles exactly for a random misfire but they just cleared the code and said to come back if the light came back on).

Anywho onto some pics of the new car in my life.

Oh and my work was nice enough to let me hoon around in this 2014 V6 with roush axlebacks that sounded amazing for my 21st birthday lol. Put 500 miles on it in 4 days. Sometimes think I should have gotten it because then I wouldn't worry quite as much about it getting scratched and whatnot.
