Ft brake pads



I always do just to keep the nasty fluid from being pushed back into the system. Makes compressing the caliper pistons much easier too.
 
no you dont. open the cap on the master so it can be pushed back up with out any back air pressure, if its getting close to over flowing you can mop some up with a clean rag to drain it.
 
Do not open the master cylinder!!! fluid will go everywhere unless you are really low on fluid to begin with. If the piston in the caliper is really hard to push in you might have a bigger problem.
 


this is so false. only way its coming out is if it over flows. lets the piston push in a bit easier. for the record, i bleed brakes cap off, swap pads cap off. cap always off. never in my life has fluid shot out of it, this goes for like 30 years of brake jobs., old and new cars.

I had it happen to me once and I will never take that chance again! Lol

You can also suck some fluid out of the top of the res with any kind of plastic bottle that has a somewhat pointy spout. I've used $ store squeeze bottles that I think are meant for ketchup & mustard, or oil or somethink.

Yea I'm with scotty on this one.... While changing rotors pads etc on my 98 GP, I left cap on while fluid was full and blew out the opposing brake line while compressing brake piston....made a huge mess and turned 1 simple problem into a whole new one...at least I got to change out the rear brake lines but i just bought car n wasn't too happy bout it....cap off as a precaution...��
 


I have just opened the cap on the master on all the brakes i have ever done. should not have an over flow issue unless you were adding fluid as your pads wore. Go slow and you should be fine.
