So this sucker just attaches to the back of your fish tank?

I'm trying to get an idea of the Refugium Tanks and how they work... I read articles and I can't get a picture in my head how exactly it works.

Yep just attaches and hangs on the back of you're tank. Good thing about a skimmer is that you don't need any kind of filter or media. When the skimmer cup get's full just dump and rinse it out.

Are you talking about a sump?

BTW. Check out Aquarium supplies for your tropical fish tank, saltwater fish tank, saltwater aquarium fish, freshwater aquarium fish & reef aquarium. Aquarium filters, aquarium lighting, aquarium tanks, protein skimmers & more for your reef tank. and Pet Supplies | Dog & Cat Supplies, Pet Meds | DrsFosterSmith.com Pet Products

They have some good stuff there.

ive never seen a freshwater tank use a skimmer before.

Here are those documents, cant figure out how to PDF em, so here they are in image glory.

Dont mind the spelling, I just scanned it instead of typing it out and fixing it.

jsut use photo/fax viewer and they get alot clearer then they are here.

Hope this helps a bit, I know its helping me understand the cycling process more, just wish I would have started with some cheaper fish.

I trust these guys with fish, they have more tanks set up and running from full blown reefs to a HUGE cychlid/oscar tank in the back. He has over 200 set up and running in the shop.

i just joined a forum at ReefBuzz.com in which the store I visited today, the owner started this forum. They had a huge selection. If any of you are interested I thought I'd share.

search for exotic aquatics as well, they are local here but are solely dedicated to the care AND maintence of marine tanks.

I've never seen a fresh water tank use a skimmer either. I though we were talking about saltwater for a while.lol

if you have a sand base then a skimmer would be helpful as the bacteria doesnt really attach to sand like it does with gravel.

Im gonna ask the tank guys if that will help my PH level at all, my tank is a biological nightmare right now. 8.6 on the Ph when it should be around 7.0 maybe 6.9

Nope, didnt have to, aquaria central has a thread on skimmers specifially if they work with freshwater, almost everyone said no and its a waste of money to even try. surface agitation seems to be the freshwater skimmer.

Are we talking fresh or salt here? Im confuzzled now.

is it kind of rare for Green Terrors to breed? I have had a mated pair for 5 years now. I can't seem to get the fry to live very long though. any suggestions? Tried breeder cages, lots of small hiding places and many plants. I have a 55 gal.

you gotta get the fry out of the tank completely. I had the same problem with my cich's years ago even my discus fry had to be pulled or they vanished.

Added 8 new fish today, cycle is done, water is absolutely perfect.

Got 6 neons( look tits with the white sand) and two angels, one all white and one all white with a spotted grey tail.

I do think that I will be ordering the ram cychlids over the net though, the local shops have nill to none in stock and cant guarantee vibrancy.

The owner of the forum is "MrCoral" and he owns a store that sells Coral rock and saltwater fish. I've been to it and it is an amazing store.

His prices are incredibly fair, he ships for free I believe... and he has a section on the forum where he puts up some Corals for sale for real cheap and 1st to pm gets them. Sometimes he even gives free Corals away!

He also has anenomes... it's a great site! My name is the same as on here, Quicklynx, feel free to add me!

If you happen to sign up, please refer me as the person who told you about it! "quicklynx"

thats a pretty nice tank!

I'm not a big fan of fake plants, but that's just me. I used to have the Banana Plants and they were awesome and the fish never bothered them!

every live plant i get has left me with a dead plant and millions of friggin snails. I love live plants but ehh this is easier. I tried everything for them just short of clown loaches, but the clowns wouldnt get along with the fish I had in there at the time.

I had to bleach it out and use some sodium t stuff I got from out aquarium tech at work, it got rid of the snails thats for sure.

heh, my fish eat banana's for dinner twice a week. I give em frozen for meat and give them fruits and veggies instead of flake.

The gourami and one of the angels play tug of war with the nana slivers, its quite funny.

I had to break up a fight in the tank today, the shark was getting his ass kicked by my kuhli loach. It got super cloudy and I though the filter puked, it was running perfect and saw the two fish wrapped up together biting eachother off to the side. I thought it was hilarious.

I know what they are, I like em but the snail threat is way too great especially once it gets into my warm water tank.

I literally had over 100,000 snails in a 4 mnth period, my driftwood was a egg laying ground for them.

I only like the dwarf gouramis, the biggers ones are neat but i only got a 26g and the big ones get 4-6 inches in length, pretty much can only have 4-5 of em total in the tank.

I found a site yesterday for live fish, aquabid.com I found a few rams im gonna get and I think im going to give my wife a 10g fancy guppie tank for mothers day. She likes em, we paid 80 bucks for 3 breeding pair of guppies last night, unlike any guppy ive ever seen in any store.
