Fishtank Help

Looks good. I am wanting to get some river rock to put in there for some more hiding places. Probably will end up getting rid of the big fake rock looking thing in the middle. Before i moved 2 years ago i had the tank set up with about 6 cichlids, and i could never keep a plecostomus in it, they would always eat them.

Also do you use real or fake plants?

Really? Well...mine is twice their size now and he ain't too nice so hopefully it works out LOL

The small one in the front is real and the other 2 bigger ones are fake. My other real one started to die after a few months...it was over by the rock on the left hand side...that's why it looks kinda empty.

yeah i'd just find the plecostomus hollowed out in a corner or something. Its crazy. Maybe this time will be different, hopefully. they sure help with things in the tank.

yeah it was crazy, it would look like it was just chilling in the corner or something, but he wouldn't move all day so I'd reach in with the net and sure enough just the top left. I was shocked, happened twice, so i stopped putting them in there.

this was my 75g when i first got it (a month or so ago)

YouTube - fish tank

the aligator gar had to go, i could never put new fish in there with out him eating it.

i thought the other fish was an oscar, but i think its a jack dempsy now after looking at some pics. ive been trying to get some african chilid but they keep dying. i think its because the crappy gold fish i get from the pet store. since ive had it ive added an algie eater and a crab. havent seen the crab so i dont know if hes still in there.

i also think the fish have come down with ich. ive been treating that for the past week or so. im still new to this stuff.

Long time no see guys, sorry got busy with work and my adoptions for my kids.

I have set up a few new tanks since the last time.

I converted my 52 back to a natural state, got rid of the ammonia laden sand cap and left it with straight flourite,

I added a RUGF filtration system as well as kept the oversized HOB.

This is the 52 NOW.

angels were removed and put into this
23u759j.jpg

40 gallon tall with the two pair of breeding angels.
1 rubbernose pleco
6 tiger barbs
and a few MTS to keep things clean at night.

I also have 10 10 gallons set up for guppy breeding and fry grow out, have a 15g QT tank.

Basically the 40T is a Rio Negro biotope ( still waiting on some pieces to come in from brazil( another pair of breeding wild angels and a pair of wild discus are being collected for me thru an old service friend.

I am using the rio negro to convert tainted angel strains back to wild type thru natural enviornment of the eggs, wigglers, and fry. Yes I do seperate the babies from the parents at egg stage, use a zoo med 212 powerhead to "fan " the eggs, so far so good, one batch is alot healthier and out of 300 eggs only 20 didnt hatch.

Next two tanks are a 14g refugium reef tank and a 47 tall for the discus.

dang man, you got it going on.

thats a good idea to set up a guppy breading tank. would keep me from having to buy feeders every week. gonna look into that.

Looks good WhiteDevil, I have my 75 gal in the pictures a few posts above and after i get our babys room set up were going to be putting a 10 gal tank in there. Don't know exactly what will be going in there.. but something.

Blow, I keep 3-4 females pregnant at all times usually drop within 5 days of eachother, those 4 females are only allowed to drop in the angel tank.

I wont keep those babies due to the sheer ugliness of them. My last two controlled drops netted me a little over 200 bucks in livestock. One male alone sold for 25 bucks.

It sounds good but I had to alter my schedule at work just to have time for the upkeep and constant fry care.

Josh, my wife and myself did that when our kids were infants, those tanks no longer exist in their rooms for obvious reasons once you get to that bump in the road.

if i have a take of guppies/goldfish do i have to do anything special for them to mate??? after they mate anything special then?? if i just leave them alone will they do there thing??

goldfish id stay away from they are dirty fish, very dirty fish.

Guppies is basically a 3 female to 1 male ratio and they will take it from there. keep the parents well fed and they wont eat their children.

Bringing this back form the dead because I need some help with mine...I can't get the water to clear up...I've tried the typical water clearer, special carbon filters, putting new water in it even (not fun filling up a 55 gallon every month)...I use salt, I've got a couple small plecostomus', male/female Green Terror, 4 small Black Convicts, a Bumble Bee, Red Zebra, and a Jack Dempsey. I didn't think I was over crowding the tank by any means...should I just get a bigger filtration system? Maybe that's the issue?

i which way do you mean its dirty?? do you have any kind of driftwoods or anything like that in there??

have you tried amonium chips?? they clear up my water real good.

i also just did a 800gph sump set up, the water is VERY clear now.

you might just need a bigger/better filtration system.

whitedevil is the guy to talk to with this stuff.

^^I know about White Devil...he just hasn't been on here in forever last I checked and just figured I'd poke on back here and post in this thread. Dirty meaning it is cloudy...as hell...murky is a nice way to describe it. As for plants and decor...I have fake plants and a big plastic rock/bridge...but thats really about it so nothing along those lines...they are all clean too...yanked them out and cleaned them thinking that might have had something to do with it...pH is fine and everything...even tested it for ammonia and everything and it comes out good. I have no idea...guessing you can get the amonium chips at PetCo or something like that?

yea any pet store. they help with amonium but also clear the water up real good.

jack dempsy's are messy eaters and leave alot of left over food on the ground. you might just need better filter/more circulation.

is it clowdy the whole month between water changes???

if yea, i would say better filtration. my 10gal has a little home made filter and it stays kinda cloudy but my 75gal, once i put that other filter on it, got alot clearer.

Meh...he's not that big...smaller than 6"...and if anyone he cleans up most of the food...it is the convicts that like to fill their mouths and then spit it all back out :p

Nah...it'll get cloudy after a month or so...then I'll change it because I get tired of looking at it LOL
