Fishtank Help

Not firmiliar with frogsspawns. But I can tell you anenomes can be disasterious to a tank with corals. And sometimes they can be fine.


Remember they can move all over you're tank,get stuck in filters and powerheads....all kinds of stuff.


And sometimes they will make their home and stay put. Luckly for me this is what happend. He did get stuck in the power head a cupple times though. :)

Metal halides. Without a doubt. If you have a canopy get a reflector and a bulb kit. Probably spend about 175 for everything...ballast and all.


They like a LOT of light.
 
yea I'll devise something to keep him out of the filer...

I'm thinking of going ritteri anenome, bubble tipped rose anenome, some purple xenion to start... than down the road add a green frogspawn and see what happens.

I'm probably gonna go with with 2 perculas for the ritteri, and 2 domino damsels for the rose, I think thats a nice start.

What setup for a 20 gallon should I use? Flow rates, lighting, how often should I feed? etc..

Do the blue damsels use anenomes???
 
A manderin goby? I heard that they are picky eaters but other than that the're ok. I've never had one though.

Thanks for the info... I've found all the stuff on craigslist for super cheap....

I know they like a lot of light, but how long throughout the day? I know the fish need their downtime as well, so should I keep the light off through the night?
 
Not a problem. I'd keep the lights on at least 9 hours a day. And would not leave them on at night enless you want hair alge growing al over...
 


yea I want a good looking tank.... anything I can get that will help keep the algae down?

Can plecos go saltwater??? I know some types of catfish can like the pictus and then the silver shark can.... even had salt water mollys and man were they gorgeous in salt water...
 
i have a 65 gal fresh water. for filteration i'm using one marineland emperor 400 and another smaller emperor 250, i think? it's for a 35 gal tank i believe. i change the water once a month. sand is the worst thing to put in the tank cause they clog up the filter. i'm using small pebbles on the bottom for now, but looking for other option like crushed coral shell. they are little expensive, but looks nice in the tank. i would never have convicts in my tank cause they f**k like rabbit and i hate it when they start chasing my other fish around during their spawing.

i have mostly african ciclids in the tank had them since they are babies. they all seem to be one happy family. here's what i have in the tank:
1 nimbochromis livingstoni
1 melanochromis johannii
2 maylandia lombardoi
4 julidochromis marlieri
1 green terror
1 peacock
1 jewel ciclid
1 angelic catfish
1 yellow electric lab
1 fontosa- it's the biggest in the tank (6") in the future i like to have only fontosa in the tank. they are very beautiful fish. mine have 6 stripes with tint of blue fins. they are hard to find around my area. little pricey too!
 
pleco are fresh water. those thing get huge i don't think you want them. bristle nose pleco or algae eater is what you need. snails are good too, but i wouldn't put with the ciclids cause they will eat them up

yes very expensive. i was going to buy one, but not for $50. they are like the jack dempsy but fancier color

Yep lot's you can do. If you have high nitrates and nitrites then algae groth will be abundant, Once you're tank cycles all of that should subside.


Get a pepermint shrimp (bubble algae eater) and get some invertebrates like crabs and ect as you're cleaning crew. And you'll be good to go :D

This is the perfect tanks for a Reef tank. As far as the main things you will need.



Heater
Live sand (can also order carribean play sand from home depo...Not live but the next best thing)
Skimmer (get a AquaC Remora)
Live rock
Power heads for circulation
Test kit's (ph,Nitrite,nitrate are the main ones)
Lighting (either VHO or MH's)


Let you're tank cycle then add fish.


That aught to get you going if you do decide to go SW
 
what kind of fish you planning to keep in the tank? if you thinking of ciclids i don't recommend putting any shrimp, cray fish, or snails with them cause they won't last long in the tank. ciclids love shell fish:th_laugh-lol3:. last summer i had 3 big cray fish about 3" -4" with huge claws. i figured they can fend for themselves. to make long story short 2 of the cray fish got eaten up the next day. the 3rd one survive for about a month it was also got eaten up.
 
I'm talking salt water. I don't know anything about freshwater.
 


I used to have a Cichlid tank... Africans and Red Devils.... never again cuz they tore each other up.. I tried rearranging the tank and everything.. nothing worked...

I ended up trading them in and going with Spotted Puffers and Silver Sharks in a Brackish Tank. When I had one silver shark the Puffers would beat on him, so I added more sharks and I never saw any damage on them. Too many for the Puffers to choose from I guess, also the silver sharks are fast enough to get away.

Thanks for the info TDC... I'm looking on craigslist and I'm finding endless pages for 75-90 gallon tanks w/stands for $100-150. All I need is equipment. I may just go this route.

BTW as I was surfing around... I really like Sun Coral... that stuff is pretty amazing.

So this sucker just attaches to the back of your fish tank?

I'm trying to get an idea of the Refugium Tanks and how they work... I read articles and I can't get a picture in my head how exactly it works.

Im going cyclids as soon as my cycle is over. or brackish. not sure yet.
