Few Questions



fast doesnt complete my thought. think of horsepower or 1/4 mile times.

do you want to beat up on ricers and run low 13s/high 12s? do you want to blow the doors off corvettes? where do you want to be in this situation?

either way transmission work is pretty necessary after driving at that power level since youll toast clutches/torque converters/etc. your stock tranny will last a while, but youll blow it up quicker if you drive like a douche.
 
Transmission is first priority. Talk to dave at Tripleedgeperformance. Once you get that done let us know.

Alright, this answers that question and I think we can recommend a setup that will work quite well. Sell it, by something else that's already fast, then mod that. If you're that willing to throw money at your car, better to get something that's better prepared for heavy modding and start there. I know that's not what you wanted to hear :th_thumbsup-wink:
 
running 12's would be great. i want get a good amount of hp like around 400 maybe. i was thinking about an intercooler, xp cam, maybe a 3.4 or 3.5 pulley, downpipe, new heads new pistons, an intake and i guess ill need a new transmission. Am I right or wrong?

Ok...so realistically then...why not get a VERY Low mile L26 Bottom End (The High Comp. Motor), GenV Blower, LS1 Throttle Body, Stage 2 or 3 IC, 42.5# Injectors, XP Cam, Comp #105 Valve Springs, Heads (if you want), Aftermarket Pistons (your call), Some sort of Headers, a tune, and probably a 3.0" pulley or around there...more realistic? If I had 10 grand I'd buy that stuff...oh and like I had said before, get a Transmission from Dave at Triple Edge Performance...you won't regret it. ;)

It is not as hard as it looks to start tuning and it is a must for these cars.

if youre looking for 400 hp youre not doing it on an m90 setup. people with full blown heads/cam/intercooler setups usually peak out in the 380 range with a fantastic tune.

if you want 400+ you want to go turbo.

if i had 10 grand i would be buying a camaro or trans am instead of trying to make a grand prix fast. if i did want to make a grand prix fast i wouldnt use a cam that runs well on stock heads as i would have heads ported and a cam that would scare the pants off anyone on the street.
 
i really dont want to go turbo 380 isnt bad, and as for getting another car i dont want to i love this body style. My dad wants to get me a 350z i mean its my dream car and all but i would rather have this.
 
okay, next question. do you want to run spray? do you want to have an intercooler? how mechanically inclined are you to do this work on your car? are you willing to learn how to tune your car or do you have someone local who can tune your car?
 


i dont really want to run spray probably the last thing i do. i do want an intercooler and my sisters boyfriend can tune it because he works at audi so it should be no problem
 
screw whipples... for what you pay.. so not worth it.. might as well go turbo with more power for way cheaper

If you wan't to stay s/c the GenV is close enough... it's not far off from whipple power on the 3800's
 
not quite. the video i saw of a whipple put down 330hp and something like 440tq on a stock grand prix. whipple is light years ahead of an eaton.

im sure the tuning aspect is going to very tricky at that stage, one hickup and the motor is gone. something to think about.
 
I had a whipple on my 05....With almost the SAME set up I want on my 07 I can be at the numbers I was in my 05..SOOO not worth it IMO! Your just buying a name and sound! LOL

He's probably talking crank HP. So that'd be about 320WHP.
 
what would be the must have mods for more hp and torque on a 97 GTP,best bang for the bucks, with prices would be great :th_nanana:
 
okay, you dont want to spray..so that takes the easy out of the situation.

here is what you should buy for more than likely a mid 11 second grand prix if you can drive it and get it tuned well, which im not sure your audi friend can do it. this is a whole 'nother beast, trust me...but anyway, to the goods:

genV supercharger: ~$350 at an LKQ junkyard
ZZP stage 2 genV intercooler with their best FMHE: ~1000
stock heads that you take to a speed shop and get ported and polished: ~$800
some form of a big cam (XPZ, IS3, some PRJ custom cam, etc): ~$500
headers, big ones (ZZP, SLP, SSAC, Pacesetters): ~$400-$900 (depends on which set you get)
some catback work to at least 2.5" piping since this is a big setup: ~$200
open cone intake (off the TB): ~$30 for a cone filter

if you wanted to throw meth at this setup for fun: ~$400.

so right there without the meth youre looking at about...$3500 minimum. this does not inlude gaskets, a tune, or any of the pullies that youll need to buy. so expect another $500 at least. this also doesnt include the motor youre going to have to buy since you said you were going to buy one anyway..

now to run good times at the track youll need suspension work so you can put the power to the ground and with all of that power youre going to blow up your transmission, especially if you run slicks at the track to get better ETs.

look at this as about a $7000 ordeal since a transmission built to run hard is about $3500. that is a LOT of money to put into a grand prix...
