Few issues I'd like to fix

I just got a 2005 GP and it did have a few minor issues.

First, it got the classic blower that won't blow problem. Easy fix, just got to wait for the part to show up.

Second, the key FOB does not work. I replaced the battery and checked that the clip is firmly soldered on (why are those clips easy to break?) but it still won't lock/unlock, open trunk, or panic at all. Is there a way to tell if it's working and needs to be reset or if I need to replace the whole thing?

Third: the LCD on the radio/CD player is very hard to read. It looks like maybe the LED backlighting either got loose and isn't getting power or the LED burned out. Can that be fixed? I have 20 years electronics experience, just prefer not to spend a lot of time taking it apart if it's not easy.

Fourth: a piece seems to be missing from the console under the key slot and next to volume knob:

:th_scratchhead: What is it? So that I can look it up and get it to cover the unsightly holes.

And lastly, I'd need manual for this car. Is there a PDF I can download somewhere? I tried Google and keep getting web site that wants to charge an arm and a leg just to view it :th_shakinghead1: Or is the manual not free? I need the manual to find out what else needs to be checked like the fuses, where are the important parts, etc.

The other LCD display is showing today is Thursday, Jan 6 :th_tongue2: so I need to change it (hence the manual request), the cruise control will not work at all (bad fuse? again need manual) and I can't find jack should I need to change tire.

3 buttons if that's the top LCD that shows odometer, date, and warnings. What does DIC stand for anyway?

Going to look in the bulb replacement guide so I can see what I need to get.
 
Got the date set correctly. Still can't get the key fob to work so I may need to have it reprogrammed. I need a replacement key anyway since the dealer had only 1 and I'd prefer to have a spare in case I get locked out.
 


The missing part on your dash is a little textured pad. I can only guess its purpose is to keep your keys from making a bunch of noise when swinging back and forth and hitting the dash while in motion.

Key fob can be programmed by anyone with a tech2 scanner. The dealer had a locksmith do mine. Also I think you can program a spare key if you have the master. Quick search retrieved this:
Put the programmed key into the ignition turn to ON, take key out and put second key in immediately and turn to ON.

I can probably trim a piece of thin black foam and hot glue it in place.

I found another issue with my car, the cig lighter sockets (both) do not work. I already checked the fuse, assuming it's the one under the hood, slot #10 (ACC), 25A it is good so is that the right fuse for the lighter socket or is there another? Or do I need to assume the wiring has come loose inside the console and not powering the sockets?

Your key fob is most likely fine, the conductive pads may have just worn off under the buttons like they commonly do.

Try this, pop open your key fob and find the little black dots attached to the rubber buttons. Take some aluminum foil and cut or tear a couple squares out that will cover those black dots without going out of the button shapes. Then just super glue the squares over those dots, let it dry, and throw it back together.

It may fix your problem, but even if not it's a good idea for these GM key fobs. Those conductive dots always wear out and cause problems. I used to have to squeeze the buttons so damn hard for them to work, now a light push works every time.

If the foil works then as mentioned, the conductive dots is wore out. Since I not sure which FOB you have, I have used both of these. My 06 GP has remote start and this is what worked:New Buick Pontiac Chevy Replacement Keyless Remote Case Button Pad Repair | eBay

There is also a fix for an insert that has the foil on clear plastic bubbles that works on both. Lot of people just super glue a small piece of foil on the rubber pad. Both of the eBay ones worked, the one with remote start is real easy to push and sometimes while holding it in my hand I accidentally set off the alarm. Good news for the neighbors, I don't do bars anymore, bad news is I go to work at 5:30am in the morning. :-) The model for the grand daughter, she has not said good or bad.

I too had the dim radio controls. I found a source on eBay that has 20 of the clear bulbs for about $8 shipped. They are coming from China, so it will be awhile before I know how they work.
