Exhaust Advice

so everyone thinks a 3" DP and a plog is good for the money? i prly wont do much after the top swap and tune, except maybe convert to E85.

if youre going for a top swap then it is not enough. you need as much flow as you can get. youll probably be able to get away with it on a stock pulley, but anything smaller is pushing it.

the e85 will help out a TON, but youre going to need something to get the air out after you slam it in.

yea the main reason i want E85 is for the high octane. but ill also need better injectors most likely, and with all that extra fuel there will prly be much more exhaust = headers most likely needed. any recommended brands?

$800 after cat return with 3" dp

Pace Setter Headers - 3.8L Series II V6 Engines - PFYC.com
$385 (i would prly buy a 3" dp from zzp for ~$200 with this, since it doesnt come with a cat)

open to suggestions.

zzp's down pipes will not work with headers. You would just have to buy a high flow cat and have it welded in.

the pacesetters that I was looking at came with their own downpipe..........if you wanted a cat it would have to be welded in........

ok ZZPs headers are looking like a lot less hassle then, considering they come with a cat if you choose. unless i can get a good quality set of headers and buy a high flow cat and take it somewhere to get welded for cheaper.

the pace setter pricing listed on the link you provided is for the black headers not the coated........also, there is a downpipe in that kit which has a downpipe. There is also a flange that downsizes the pipe size after the downpipe(at least that is where I think it goes) that has a built in bung for the O2.....either way you would have to weld those pieces together. So it looks to me like you would just have to cut the DP pipe shorter to accomodate the cat and then weld it all together.......so the only difference is cutting one pipe a bit shorter.............I have seen the coated kit for $485-525 if you are interested in that.

also, the coated said for supercharged only, so idk if they would fit because they have different primary sizes.

ok someone who actually has headers needs to chime in and help us...i just want headers that will not crap out. idk about temps im not that worried about it, but i need a cat.

I have ss autochromes they have worked fine so far. They do not have a cat tho. Any headers that fit the supercharged 3800's will fit the n/a's. I would not get the coated pacesetters if you get pacesetters just get them raw.

if you want headers, do a search for them and you will pull up many threads on this. almost no one can agree..........the cheaper heads need lots of work to put them in and the more expensive ones are more user friendly.........depends if you are going to do the work and dont mind doing it or if you just want more of a bolt in type..........it will not be easy either way........

Why the f**k is that? Care to elaborate?

In the meantime of his answer I'll tell you for about $500 or so I had the coated Pacesetter's installed...then taken to a local exhaust shop and had them welded up...bigger primaries than ZZP or TOG's IIRC (unless you get TOG Xtreme's) @ 1 7/8". Pacesetter's are awesome headers and for the money you can't complain. I sure haven't. I love mine. Pacesetter's come with a catted option IIRC, you just have to email Pacesetter about it. And don't waste your money on the black ones as they just rust after a month or less. Pointless.

Get Pacesetter's. You won't be dissapointed. They might fit as NICELY as ZZP's, but you save yourself nearly $400-$500 and you can spend that on a cam ;)

if you want to save some money on the headers check out Herron Performance(google them) the headers are $460.00 fwiw.........cheapest I have found them anywhere
