Evap System

In my ride, 97 Grand Prix GTP, the evap system is gone. I purchased it like that about a year and half ago, but I got good price for the car. The car runs but not to its full ability. I haven't drove the car for a year or so.

I was thinking about going to a "you pull it" place this weekend and looking for a Grand Prix and getting a evap system. What years can I take a evap system from and what are the main parts, do I need to take out? Also, photos would help out a lot.

I appreciate it!

You'll want a 96-97 Bonneville, Park Ave, Riviera or a 97 Regal/GP

Get the two dingus's on the back of the motor for evap (Scotty..please insert 97 vac diagram image)

One is a purge soleniod and the other is a purge valve.

its the check engine light on for the missing evap system? it may have been tunes out if theres no light on for it.

if you have a code post it up. theres more then just what you see under the hood, theres a canister tank and another solenoid in the rear quarter panel under the gas filler neck. that could be missing too.

Thanks for the diagram that's a big help.

Yes the check engine light is on. I did a scan on her and these codes come up p0300 and p0441. I think the p0300 code is from my from my fuel pump regulator because the fitting that goes on the nipple dry rotted off.
I have a thread on this here

http://www.obd-codes.com/p0441 you'll need the vac line from the tb to the solenoids on the back of the engine, then hope you see the other side of the line laying in the rear engine bay somewhere. that line goes to the canister in the back of the car.

the po300 is multiple misfires you either need a tune up real bad, or the cats clogged up. the cel ever flash when you floor it?

And..keep in mind the switch has a third nipple on the bottom. It should have a L shaped line on it that's maybe 2 inches long and open to air. It's underneath and people always freak about where it goes.... it goes no where

its listed on that diagram, its on the fuel rail, but thats not your issue at all.

do buy new vac lines and t's. it will run you 5 bucks tops at the parts store. best T's ive found are at advance auto, 2 t's for 2 bucks, vac line is a buck a foot.

the t on the middle is the fpr. new t's vac line bbv to map sensor.

I'm sorry, I meant the fuel pressure regulator not the fuel pump regulator. Forget about the fuel pump regulator I check it and its fine.

ahh, the 97, that line would hit that vac tree. you have no t under the snout, that nipple runs to the map sensor. it still worth cahnging the t if its loose or cracked, and any other hard line ends if they are cracked like the t is.

Thanks Scotty, this helps me out a lot! This is exactly what I was looking for.

Lol...I just found it after a year! I'm glad I found it though. Hopefully everything will work fine when I get it fix up.

I think I'm going to go with the Blue SickSpeed vacuum hoses on eBay. I want to dress her up nice and pretty! Lol
