Engine Ticking

When the car idle's there is a semi-loud ticking/popping noise coming the engine. the noise goes away or gets really quiet when accelerating. I was reading one thread on here and long story short the guy said it was leading to engine failure. And i cant really afford something like that at the moment, and im deploying in about a month and dont want something like that to happen to my wife while im gone. oh and car is basically stock, there was a short ram air intake installed when i bought it a few months ago and everything else seems stock.
if you need to know anything else let me know.

Oil is good, I've changed when supposed to, I add when needed. so you think its goin out? is there a way to prevent this or start savin for a new motor?

its actually quite a bit quieter than that. and goes completly away even when reving it. i know its not but it litterally sounds like its coming from the superchager pulley, right in that area bewlow the snout side

ok i will do that tomorrow after work, im in alaska, its almost 12:30 and -4 haha. i will post back on here tomrorrow. thanks for your help bro!

Roll on into the hobby shop. Best way for us to try and diagnose a noise is for us to hear it. Please grab a vid of the noise as best you can. We've heard a lot and may be able to help with diagnosis better that way.

Is this a higher mile car? Could be the normal lifter tick that a few 3800's are knowing to get. From the sounds of what your explaing that's a good bet as to it being that. If that's the case I wouldnt worry about it and just drive it.

Oh. Power steering reservoir full?

Highly doubt that being the issue or any type of power steering problem with the type noise he's hearing. If it was a p.s problem it'd death whine like crazy along with other very easy to daig problems. He's not even complaing about an issue of that sort.

we do have loud injectors too... or could be a lifter tick

Your not going to hear your injector's inside the cabin of the car while driving it. So I feel it's safe to say that's not the problem at hand as well. I feel your on track with it being a Lifter issue.

The car has 119XXX miles. Is there a way to tell if it's a lifter or should I just take it in?

Hell, that thing has lot's of life left in it. If you have any freinds with a decent ear and have a passion for car's with some know how. That'd be your best starting point. Have one of them listen to it and just give it a quick once over. Lifter tick is a pretty easy noise to pin point and if you've been around car's for a while you can pick on to it rather quickly. If that's not the case and your unsure of what's going on with it still then finding a dealer or shop might not be such a bad idea. IMO a GM dealer will be the best place to go to hands down. But they are going to try and nickle and dime you as well. I worked for g.m for a number of year's to know how they tick. But if they say it's nothing more the lifter tick. I'd just drive the wheel's off the car and not put any money into it. A little lifter tick never hurt anyone.

Sweet! Thanks! I will do that after work in about 45 minutes. I will take a video and post so that you can hear it as well. I hope it's just a lifter
