Ease of installation of a PLOG

So I'm getting a plog soon and I want to know how easy it is to install. I believe there are 8 total bolts. Whats the best way to go about doing the install? I'll start spraying the bolts with pb blaster a couple day's before I receive the plog to help the bolts come off easier. I also bought the manifold gasket from zzp so I will RTV both sides of that. Thanks for the info.

You're probably better off to start spraying **** on those bolts earlier than a few days before. Either way, it's going to sssuuucckk.

Ughhh I might just take it in to a tuner shop to get done. They will have access to torches and air gun's which will most likely help ton's.

And expect to get charged out the butt for something like that too...and wasn't the whole reason that you didn't go headers was because money was low so taking it to a shop will defeat the purpose.

Pb blaster + breaker bar and or buy something to heat it up a bit= mission accomplished.

Alright I guess I could try. Just don't want to bust bolts and make it more of a pita then it already will be. I'll probably be getting it by the end of the week so I'll start pb'ing it tomorrow and buy a decent torch.

Once you start taking your headers off every six months, the bolts will never be seized.

:th_laugh-pointup:

But really... PB blaster only goes so far... If you want to loosen bolts, make what NASA uses... 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF in a spray bottle is all you need, especially if you can let it sit a while. Will loosen almost anything! Breaker bar helps if stuck :D

Personally, Plog is half a set of headers and why not just go all the way and get headers! Just sayin...

Dang wouldn't that mixture eat up the bolts? Lol I should try that though for kicks. I would have got headers, but I have a dp already and don't feel like taking it off to sell. Possibly in the future when I'm good on money.

Not sure of the prior experience of the guys that have already commented, except for DSmuts.

Here's the super simple Bill method:
Remove airbox tube out.
Loosen the crossover bolts 1/2 turn each until loose. This backs them off equally and gives you a 95% chance of pulling them w/o any issues.
Remove both dog bones
Remove 13mm nut for oil dipstick tube, wiggle and remove tube.
Remove the bolts holding the middle of the manifold.
Remove the two nuts holding the ends of the manifold
Take manifold off
Remove factory gasket
Wipe factory gasket clean with a nice rag and brake cleaner
Wipe head surface
Reinstall factory MLS gasket on studs
Wipe surface of PLOG that will mate to gasket with brake cleaner
Look down and note where dipstick tube needs to go when installing, this is a great chance to see the location.
Install plog and all the bolts that hold it to the head.
Reinstall dipstick (sometimes having someone underneath and using the dipstick inserted into the tube helps guide it.
Reinstall dipstick retaining nut
Bolt crossover to plog
Reinstall air tube.

If you think you need heat to do the job. Skip the torch, skip the shop, skip all the silly steps mentioned. Before you start the job, start the engine and let it get some temperature in it. Shut it off and loosen the bolts you are worried about, magical isn't it?

I've had two bolts snap in heads out of a few thousand, it's rare if you hold the ratchet/socket straight and don't turn it the wrong way.

Holy crap. You guys must have had some serious problems with yours. Lol
Spray PB blaster like you mentioned and then go to town. I would suggest that when you go to reinstall connect it at the crossover first then install the other bolts.
