Dilemma, what should I do with my car.

I have multiple options at hand with my GTP situation. But first things first here is the rundown. My GTP's trans is pretty much gone besides driving it normally. TCC locks if i touch WOT and let the car shift from second to third. First gear won't engage unless in drive, and it sometimes just won't go from a stop. Myself is the only one to blame, i already trashed one trans on my 3.4 setup, then i throw a 3.2 on and meth so i knew it was going to happen. Just not right after the day i got the meth on and tuned.

So here's my dilemma. I honestly don't really want my GTP anymore. I want to get a G8. But I can't expect to sell my GTP with a trashed trans. I have a magic number I'm shooting for for the G8. I'm looking for G8 GT's for around 22-24k, but want to be able to have enough cash to get the loan amount down to around 16k. I have $2300 saved up so far, so i have to weigh my options to get me the most cash out of my GTP in order to hit the 16k area. So here they are.

1.) I have a friend of the family who can build me a trans and install it for $1200, and it's guaranteed for 2 years. Then I can still drive the car with my mods on it, and attempt to sell my car fully modded (mods in sig). So my saved amount would drop to $1100. If all else failed as far as selling fully modded, i could demod and sell the car stock.

2.) Fully demod right now, and trade it in to a stealership with the trashed trans. I already had a dealer offer me 3k trade in for it, so I expect to see around $2500-3000 because the car is very driveable and it's their job to inspect the car.

What do I do? I can't seem to wrap my head around what would benefit me the most. I just want to get the most money out of my car to fund my G8.

I'd fix it and drive it until you saved up some more money. You'll regret getting rid of it when you have to make payments every month. Fix the trans, De-mod some stuff and save money until you wont have to pay for a car for 3 years.

I personally would fix it, if you have the time and tools, you can put a tranny in under 1k. Then that would buy you more time to save for a sexy G8.

you dont have enough money to even consider buying a G8 in that price range. fix your car and start saving.

Thank you sir drunken moderator. I think i will. I'm due for a bonus at work, and my GTP only has 84k on it and is paid for. I could throw a junkyard trans in and still probably get 4500 out of it locally, with no mods on it. Highschool kids in my town are, i know it sounds dumb, nuts over my car. Plus demodding completely, and sell my rims that are well over $1200 new, i think its possible.

i completely agree with your statements. do what you can with the grand prix, then look at other options when youre more financially stable. i took a big leap into the car im driving now because i was basically in the same position. coming from me, dont do it.

I understand, it's a tough decision. In my eyes i'm just done pouring money into the GTP, and having it nickel and dime me all the time. Because i am ultimately unsatisfied with the grand prix. A rwd V8, sedan, slightly used, with a 5 year powertrain warranty just makes sense. But maybe I should just continue saving and get my car fixed with a cheap trans. Then continue to look later in the fall. idk

fix the gtp demod it drive it as a stock car and start saving using the demod money to either pay for the trans work or put in savings
