DIC COLOR CHANGE!!! First atempt, learn from my mistakes

I found that if you dont set the LED into the unit, but keep them back a bit the beams will overlap and will come out even

how do I know what ohm resistors to get? or do they come with the LEDs? I'm too lazy to drive to radio shack :th_laugh-lol3:

if you're doing blue, just do it the same way kejross lays out on the first page. You'll need to learn how to solder if you dont already know how to, but it's not like it's hard to do. i learned how to solder specifically for this and had it done in less than a day of beginning. if you're doing a different color LED, i believe you'll need a different ohm resistor though

I posted links somewhere in this thread that has the resistor calc there. Does both multiple and single led configurations... And the LEDs are pretty easy to solder on, I did mine twice after all... I think if I had one of these sitting in front of me with supplies handy I could do the whole thing from tear down and back together in under 45 minutes. It would really be a good project to learn on too since there's no real schematics to read or circuits that are more than 2 components. Give it a shot and if you got questions I'm sure one of us that's done it will get back to you asap

Yeah I think those first LEDs I got were about the worst I coulda picked with that 16* viewing angle, hell spotlights have wider angles than that... You use the tinier ones? What did you use for you defuser? A clear cover and the opaque white or one or the other?

Ps... It was your pics that got me wanting to do this, sorry I ripped you off a bit lol

I honestly believe that 560 ohm resistors do not exist in Canada...well at least Windsor..I jumped the boarder to Detroit the other day to hit up AutoZone and Radio Shack...they had the LEDs but no 560 resistors... and that city is way too shady for me to be driving aimlessly around to other Radio Shacks. Called stores around here...NOTHING. ....brutal.

.99 cents a pack here all day long... you can always get creative and series/parallel wire some together and get close, or order from the website and wait...

Hell on Earth.... they're even sold out on the Internet.
560 ohm 1/2W 5% Carbon Film Resistor pk/5 - RadioShack.com

http://cgi.ebay.com/Carbon-Film-Fix...hm-200Pcs-/350147311385?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0

lmfao, must be my awesome thread selling out the nation... ebay has plenty, this link is for $1.00 for 200 of them with 3.89 shipping. only trouble is they are from hong kong and will take weeks to get here... theres smaller quantities local though, just thought that price was crazy cheap since that many would be $40 from the shack plus tax...

I changed mine to blue and they were working for like 5 min then the light shut off, any ideas? Is there some kind of fuse just for the back lights? The traction and button lights are still working. looked awesome while it lasted, im going to get new leds tomorrow see if i burned them out but i kind of doubt it cause i wired them in with the resisters. thanks

thats usually what happens when the resistor values are wrong... in your case too low. sure you used the same leds an 560ohm 1/2 watt? if you used a lower wattage 560 it may have burned up too. if your using the calculator max sure you use the regular values on the package and not the max values. let me know...

i used the 4 pin blue part#276-0023 and 560 ohm 1/2watt 5% tolerance resistors part #271-1116. when i put them in i had one of the resistors bypassed by some sloppy soldering but the other 2 were working so i took it apart again thats when i noticed the resistor bypassed so i re soldered everything and the same two worked for a few minutes then went off.
im deff going to try new leds tomorrow. when they were onn seemed kind of dim also if that has anything to do with it idont know. at least my soldering got way better from taking this thing apart and putting it back together so many times lol

sure you got the sides of the 4 pins lined up right? i dont know what else it could be... sounds like you did it all right.

got it leds were burned out. any idea why the dic dimmer is reversed from the rest of the dash? when i go brighter the dic gets dimmer and vice versa. i also couldn't find a jewel cd case so i used a piece cut out of a blue bottle of dawn i think its a little to dark so i might try to find something that lets more light through later

no idea on the diming thing i never mess with my dimmer, and if i had it to do over i wouldn't have put anything blue behind the screen, should be fine with the white alone cause it gets the color from the leds themselves. ill mess with my dimmer next time i drive it and let you know...

has anybody tried somthing like this on an 04+? I would like to make my dic a deeper red than the stock orange/red. any thoughts?
