Dan's Rims and Tire Thread.

i wouldn't run a staggered wheel on a FWD car. it's dumb.

Yeah it looks a bit funny but you can get them on without clearance issues. My 315's fit the car easily after using a 5/16" wheel spacer but i would have needed longer wheel studs a 10" wheel you shouldn't have any issues with clearance it will just look funny the only thing I can think of that you would have clearance issues with is if you were to lower it the tire would stick out past the fender. Not by much but enough to cause issues.

Dan.. if you are heading 245-45-18 check out Bridgestone Potenza's say a RE970AS PP. I have those tires and the predecessor 960's on 18" Lucerne Super rims. Amazing tires if you can get yourself to throw the clams at them.

Was looking at those. Would cost me $750 shipped. Thats a decent amount of change.

If you dont want to go with the Sumitomos to save some money the nitto nt555s are a really good tire for the money and they are just a bit more money than the Sumitomos

Not a bad tire I don't think.

I've seen some as low as $150 per tire for 245/45/18.

So here's where I stand if I went with brand new:

Saleen 18x9 +30 wheels: $700 shipped
Nitto NT555's 245/45/18: $608
Total: $1,308

Not to shabby, if I can sell my current Comp-G rims with Pirelli P4 tires with an 80,000 mile warranty on them. Should get a decent chunk of change for these to help fund the future rim/tire setup.

Or sell current setup to fund future kid costs??

No. I'm not going to sell my rims and not get anything to replace them. I'm not in such desperate need of money where I need to start parting out my car.

Like I said in the beginning, I will be slowly saving until hopefully I'll have enough money to buy the new setup by next summer.

I see you're in Michigan. Would you be using these for summer-only?

-Bob C.

Yes, summer only.

^^^this!

...Or, use that money that your saving for rims for future kid costs.

I'm working three jobs.

Not trying to be mean, but how about everyone stays out of my private life. I have my baby covered, trust me.

I came here looking for insight on rims/tires. Not fatherly advice. That's my issue.

He's looking at spending 1300 on new rims and tires and he has a kid coming in just a few months. I think he NEEDS the advice from someone who has been there.

Your friends and family will only help you so much. How do you think they will feel if they are paying for your kids stuff and you spend 1300 on new rims cause they look cool...

Kids cost a metric **** ton. And it's not a one time cost either.

Do what ever you want. I'm just trying to give you some advice from someone who has spent the last 4 years spending money on a car while raising a kid.

Josh. Like I said, I'll take care of my personal problems.

That's no one's business but mine. I'm working my ass of at 3 jobs while still going to school. I'm doing the best I can.

All I said was hopefully by next summer which is almost a year away I may be afford this setup. If I can't because of the kid, then so be it. But why can't I set a goal and get a game plan? I appreciate you looking out, but I'm not seeking personal advice on my life. If you would like to talk about that, feel free to text me then.

the problem i always have with picking out parts is that any more than a month or two down the road i change my mind. you'll do it, too.

I was able to get mine in 2 paychecks working one job part time driving 20 mile to and from working almost everyday of the week for crap pay. Mind you the pocket was tight until next paycheck but you'll get there eventually.

Dan...Scotty and a few others will tell you that additional $150 to get you to the bridgestones, is well worth the buy in price. I understand it's spensive, I nearly cried when I got the Lucerne rims for $300 and the tires were that pricey.
