Cruising and random unpredicted jerk

AKGTP19

I've asked numerous people about this and still can't find a decent answer, but I will be cruising on the highway and out of no where (usually when I'm going up a hill or there is resistance on the car) the engine or trans will jerk sometimes harder than others and rpm's will jerk with it so that makes me think it's a trans related problem but there are no service lights. Has anyone had this problem before?

That is the car downshifting so that it can make it up the hill.

My Intrepid does the hard downshift too but I have yet to figure out if it's bad (or more than likely how bad it is)

I know for a fact it's not downshifting, has to be a component that is moving while cruising near 75-85mph

I couldn't tell you, and I keep thinking it's the torque converter just because it's while I'm cruising, not just a shift thing

My Cavalier was doing the exact thing you described recently. Turned out to be a bad spark plug wire.

Well let's hope that's all it is, I'm gonna get new plugs and wires as well to go with my used ICM and Coils From Morad parts

I don't know if you already know this, but don't install everything all at once. Swap the coils than drive it and see what happens and than the next thing etc; etc.

You can, but if you do it one part at a time and it turns out to be let's say the plugs than you'll know. So you can keep the other parts for spares. Believe me spare coils or wires or whatever can come in handy. If this is the problem you can still install everything you bought. Just keep the old good stuff for backup.

I had this exact issue on my old GTP. It was caused by a bad VSS blipping out momentarily. The car would think that it went to 0mph for a second, and try to downshift to first. Watch the HUD or speedo when it happens to see if you can catch the blip.

Okay, I'll do the ICM and spark plugs first, the plugs will be brand new and if it still does it then I'll swap the coils

Start with plugs (autolite 606) gapped at .055 and wires
Throw a bottle of seafoam in the gas and put another threw the vac port under the blower snout. Take off the vad hose and connect another one so you can poor the bottle into it. Have someone start the car and sit to make sure it doesnt stall. Slowly poor bottle into the hose and keep it form stalling until you get to like 1/16 left and poor it in quickly to stall it out, if it doesnt have the person shut off car. Warning car is going to smoke like crazy. Let it sit for 20 mins and start it up and idle for a min or so and start reving lightly until the exhaust stops smoking.
Change your pcv
Take your tb off and clean it
Clean your maf with maf cleaner
Might be worth changing your vac hoses if they are original. Only a couple bucks for hose and Ts so why not.
Change you fuel filter with an ac delco
