Cops who tailgate you...

DOT cops are either the best guys or the worst chitheads, I have never met a semi ok DOT cop ever.

When I was an O/O and ran all 48 I would not go to NY-NJ no matter what the load paid because of this same chit you are talking about. I was a company driver way back when I first started and was at Hunts Point and actually got shaken down for $ by the DOT cops there (not physically) or they told me I would be there 3 days if i didn't "contribute a donation" to a special fund. I was a company driver and it cost me $200 to deliver a load. Never accepted another load to NY and only a few to NJ but tried to avoid them until I was O/O then No Way would I go there or send any of my trucks and drivers there

the DOT guys i've had to deal with most are ok, they are just doing their jobs making sure the trucks are safe on the road. last time i got roped into a inspection i actually passed and was given a class 1 inspection sticker, and sent on my way, took over an hour to get done, but that truck hasn't been stopped since.

in Bergen county NJ here they just write tickets so they can make their salary's, complete BS, one stop from a BC cop can cost the truck owner up to 1500 or more depending what you got nailed with.

it all starts with a missing mud flap, and goes from there.

NYC thats a whole other animal over there, and im not surprised that the DOT cops f'ed you over out there, hunts point not a nice place. and NYC DOT assholes drive around looking for you, and they work at night, most states close down after dark, not NYC, those boys never sleep lol

i used to drive roll off truck, in and out of Brooklyn NY, if they see you dripping out the back of the box its a 500 dollar ticket, real fast.

We have a DOT guy that does nothing but scales trucks all day... He is pretty smooth and laid back. I've seen him let trucks go that were over by 3,000 pounds! Scottydoggs, I was never a big ticket writer. I think I will stay a "flatlander" and stay away from the Jersey guys! LOL! No offense but, I like the drug and gang stuff! It's a little more upbeat and gets the blood pumping!

Following someone for miles on end at a time? No. Making sure someone isn't hiding drugs, guns or drunk, yes. I read another post that once someone crosses into another jurisdiction the cop "can't do anything." Well, I'm here to tell you that's wrong. If I see a vehicle make a wrong turn, not use a signal, blow a stop sign or whatever the case may be, I can follow them to Seattle if I wanted to. All because the act of probable cause first occured in my jurisdiction.

What if a town cop follows you 6 miles out of town when your tint is legal, no light bulbs out, you were wearing your seat belt, used your turn singal and went 1 under the speed limit just to spite them? I think in IA town cops can go up to 2 miles out of town.

just like every other town in the USA we have a drug task force, under cover work, drug dogs, a swat, and the gangs are here too. you name it.

being at im less than 10 miles from the GWB, drugs are a problem here so are the gangs. bloods crips, yeah they are ahere too, not far from where i live too, morons with tated tear drops off their eyes all over now.

its only the county police here that are super f ed up. they tried to combine the county and sheriffs office, but the sheriff office refused because of the bad name the county cops have.
the sheriffs do warrants and bring prisoners to court, the county just breaks balls all day. writing tickets.

Define legal tint... Side windows, windsheild?

iowas law is front windows are 75% and back windows can be what ever as for the windshield i think its 6" from the top but dont quote me on that

in NJ you can do the back windows as dark as you want, but the front doors and windshield are to be left stock.

and why i have been stopped 2 times so far. 35 up front 20 on the rears, 5% 7 inch brow.

Some police break the law, yes, but it's few and far between where I'm from... The Illinois law was just passed that side windows can be tinted. There is a large discrepency now on how dark it can be. All of my co-workers say "I'm not going to even stop a car for tint, if I have a reason, then I will take it up then." The law says no darker than 20% on the sides...

wanna see some crooked cops, Google hackensack NJ police chief, lol the whole force is corrupt, from the chief to the union, its a mess over here, like someone will be going to jail.

I got a better fix for ya; Ride THEIR tails. Followed a state trooper on i295 for 5 mi. on him before he flicked his lights once. We were doing 80. I moved to the slow lane and went 100... and he gave me the thumbs up.

No joke.

I love when ppl who know nothing about law enforcement, speak on how we should do our jobs.

Sent using my bionic thumbs from my sweet DROID Razr Maxx

All I'm going to say about that comment is how indicative it is of most LEO's that THINK they're the only one's who KNOW the law, it's enforcement and application thereof. For every point you make, there are counter points to perfectly legal reasons why someone is doing something, i.e., people moving around in the car when being tailgated... let alone by a marked car. Largely, the Courts give LEO's wide berth and the average citizen little of the same when it comes to issues before the judge. Not all is what it appears, but a LEO with a chip on his/her shoulder can certainly use whatever they want to define REASONABLE cause. That same REASONABLE cause does not mean criminal activity. But that said, for most people, all the LEO has to do is follow you and within a mile or two, you will do something that could justify the stop.

But when talking about Vehicular Traffic/Safety Enforcement, it really is ONLY about Revenue Generation Period!

The Quoted bold part tells me even more about you and personally, I think the public you serve SHOULD have a LOT to say about how you do your job, which is to serve them. If you can't handle that then maybe it's not the people who are thinking about your job that are off base.

-------- on other post's --------

No LEO should be breaking the law (speeding) unless responding to a call. If you tail them (at a safe distance) and get pulled over, you could certainly have a case against the stop as you were performing your citizen duty to follow and then report the infraction. (lol), but again, make sure you got that camera rolling, except for those jurisdictions that have made it a FELONY to record an LEO while on duty (of course after their LEO's have been caught in some really compromising situations)...

Now, let me tell you, I've rarely been cited for infractions and can talk my way out of trouble most of the time, but it helps to KNOW the law and your RIGHTS! Especially in a vehicle stop.

Recent ruling in the SCOTUS has validated that you must assert your rights in order to enjoy them. What does that mean? Well, know what you can, and can't do when stopped. What to say, how to act. Also knowing the limits of what the LEO can do and not do also helps...

This thread can get real deep, but I'll leave it there for now. I just disagree LEO's with chips on their shoulder is all.

Eventually, the only way the ROGUE LEO's will behave is when the State's remove their immunity from prosecution (Shield Laws) when they are violating rights of others while on duty and they are held to the HIGHER degree of accountability that the average citizen is. Right now, it's the other way around...

Anyways... enough from me.

Regards!
:)

Yeah lets do this so the people behind you get into an accident and kill someone. Do you ever think they might be in a hurry ??? Maybe they've got kids in the car and they're sick, maybe a relative is in the hospital and they need to get there quickly...... Often times you think by brake checking someone or blinding them with damn lights is the answer when in reality it can cause a chain reaction that can change everyones life in a second or be deadly. Think before you act.
If I was in a situation like this; an emergency, I would use my hazards to warn people. Seems to work.

I just do 10 under (I think it's illegal to do less without hazards and a reason in PA, not sure) and if it's before 10 P.M. (when the sound ordnance comes into effect in my area), I just blast the loudest, most bass filled song with the worst lyrics I can find until they leave me alone, I wonder how they like watching my license plate jiggle :D

And right on coolone! Always know your rights in case that bull situation occurs and a cop tries to "shake you down" for lack of better wording.

Oh, and ALWAYS replace your headlights, like, as soon as possible, I was in my buddy's explorer driving back to his house missing a headlight, and a cop drove by, turned around, and pulled us over. Guess what? We got the drug dogs caled on us. Why? I have no f*&%#$@ clue, obviously we weren't doing anything illegal, but that wasted SO much time, I just chain smoked the entire time to try to play mind games with the guy, make him think I was super nervous or something :D

And I don't want anyone to think I'm just a dick to cops either, I know a fair few in my area that are great guys nad are honestly pretty fun to small talk with, but occasionally there's that one dude that just pisses me the heck off, and that's saying a LOT.

keep having fun on the side of the road. better you than i. :)

never had the dogs sniff my car, but almost every time i've ever been stopped i was holding......:th_mischievious:

lolz... just one word leaves much to the imagination!

If ever asked if you vehicle can be searched I would say sure, once you show me a search warrant. Now, you can run into a situation where the LEO insists and CAN search your vehicle. Here in NY is a little thing called Implied Consent, but if searched without warrant, there could be grounds to challenge any eventual find. Simple way to handle it would be to agree to not intefere but object to the search and when asked to exit vehicle make sure you lock the doors, windows closed of course, and put your keys in your pockets as you get out of car and close it all locked tight. lolz... the LEO will be pissed at this point for sure, because now you just ruined his/her day. Your keys if taken from your pocket to open vehicle without a warrant would invalidate the search. But be prepared, you could be held until a warrant is provided and your vehicle held as well to preserve potential evidence. lol...

So it's now a test of will... it comes down to what happens in most situations, that a citizen will forgoe their rights in order to avoid uncomfortable siutuations. Its within this gap the most LEO's apply pressure to obtain what they want. But the old - if you aren't doing anything wrong you have nothing to worry about, or have nothing to hide is a ridiculous mindset created by the media and others to create the thought that you should always COMPLY with a LEO's order. What is missing from that thought is a LAWFUL ORDER, you have the right to refuse unlawful orders and they use them more than they would like to admit.

Here is an link for those who might find it interesting...

Enjoy...

sad part is the test of wills will be won by the cop, 1. he has all day and dont care how long he sits on the side of the highway. 2. if they ask to search your car and you say no, they just call for the dog, even just walking the outside of your car the dog will hit on your car if you are hiding something. and you lose then.

they also have this little thing called plain sight, this gives the cop full access to your car. should you have something incriminating in plain sight.

just act right, be calm, do as the nice man says lol never have anything on your person, if the cop pulls you from your car, chances are he will search you or at least pat you down. for his safety. if your dirty, he can now search your car, no dogs or warrant, nothing.

texas has some crazy laws where you dont need to id yourself, and can carry a loaded guy down the street, and still not show id, love that place...

you tube has some great vids of people standing by their rights, and winning.
