Cops who tailgate you...

On both ends, I know most cops are cool but I've seen enough flying through neighborhoods that I don't like them.

This can be one of two things... cop is a jerk and just driving fast. Or he is going to a legit call that the dept doesnt allow him to run "hot" to. Police cant run lights and sirens to every call they get. It is very limited.

They can run hot but at a reasonable speed through areas, not when I know this cop comes to a complete stop at a 4 way then just outright floors it

when i got my tint ticket knew i was getting pulled over from the second i passed him parked in the lot, after he pulled out he was glued to my bumper for 6 to 8 blocks. got to a light to make a left, and i thought a on coming car was letting me go but didn't, so i jammed the brakes and this fool almost hit me.

the troopers here in jersey are the worst tho, they travel at 80 to 90 all the time and act like you are holding them up at 65 in the fast lane, they ride your ass till you move over. no lights either, just them up your ass.

is driving like a asshole that owns the road taught at the advanced driving course at the academy?

if jail doesn't appeal to you and you want an express trip to a place that is uh more peaceful

to bad we didn't have manuals. If there close enough just downshift and tell em you missed the gear.

thats not needed, if you want the pig to hit you just slam on the brakes, it will be his fault for following to close. it dont matter that hes a cop, you just charge him with it as you are the witness.

I love when ppl who know nothing about law enforcement, speak on how we should do our jobs.

but why tail gate someone just because you are a cop? it makes everyone uncomfortable, even when its not a cop, and its a 5 pt ticket or 6 now, so why do cops get away with it, if its such a bad offence? seems like small dick syndrome.

get up get the plates am back off, but for the lights and sirens, when there near neighbour hoods most of the time they arn't aloud to, but u get the ocasional dicks that turn the lights on to go through a red light i see it all the time at 2 in the morning

If you think that we "tailgate" you to be a dick.........you're an idiot.

Its already been said that we are running ur plate...........but how about I'm trying to get a good look in the car yo see how many occupants? How about that when guilty ppl see me in their rear view, they may start moving around and try to hide something, or grab a gun? Or even try to sneaky seat belt maneuver.

So like I said, people who judge a cop on his actions, that has no education in the field (except the experts who took criminal justice 101 in college), can take their opinions and shove them.

im not even talking about being pulled over. im talking about some poor guy doing 65 in the fast lane passing cars that are in the middle lane, a trooper fly's up and rides your ass, forever, you finally move over and he passes you, then he slides off to the side to do radar, that's just being a dick in my book all day. cop or not.

i do under stand some times cop respond silently, but they usually give you the lights being flashed or a chirp of the siren.

NJ troopers do this all day, they drive worse than a 17 year old new driver who thinks they are invincible.

the local cops not so bad, UNLESS you are being stopped, then they ride your ass till they light you up and you stop.

and you cant read the plate of most cars when you are drafting. im talking 12 inches away from the car a heads bumper at 70 mph, come on, that's ok?

you didn't read my post i'd say.

i addressed being pulled over, and the difference of a cop who just wants to do 90 so he can get to his hide out and catch speeders, i see it all day long. that's the tailgating that's completely unacceptable to me.

if you want to ride someone's ass to stir the pot and see what turns up fine, but don't do that because you want to go 90 for NO LEGAL REASON AT ALL.

you close to understanding where im coming from?

just stating the facts here, im a truck driver, i see it all frigging day without exaggeration.

Cops are ok in my book so far. Got pulled over doing 75 in a 65, let me go with a warning and we even had a little chat about me getting home safely, was kind enough to give me directions to get back on the right highway. So as it stands, my only time being pulled over, they are A ok with me!

agreed. if we need to get that close to read a plate then we either need glasses or your plate is covered with something. 90% of the patrol cars out there have cameras with a zoom feature. if they are tailgating then slow down to what the minimum speed is. most areas it is around 10 under unless posted different. then you get into the next thing. what does that local or state law say following too closely means? in ga it states that no matter the speed you have to have enough room between you and the car infront of you to allow another car to safely and lawfully merge. next they probably should not be running your plate without probable cause. depends on the local laws of the area. in alot of cases, especially in large cities where traffic stops are extremely dangerous, it is best to run the plate before lighting someone up for a stop. this lets you know if the car is involved in a BOLO or felony warrant, etc... what alot of people do not understand is that for a normal police officer that does traffic stops, traffic stops are the single most dangerous thing you can do as a cop. you dont know who is in that car and what they might have just done. do they have a gun? did they just kill someone 10 minutes ago? you dont know.

now i am not trying to justify those dick cops out there that abuse their authority. we know there are those guys out there. i couldnt tell you how many ive worked with, but if you dont have the knowledge then dont armchair quarterback, and dont lump all of us into that genre. i will tell you in my experience 85% of cops out there are doing there job, and doing it properly. in my 10 yrs as a cop i have only written a handful of tickets. for 2 reasons. 1: i was on the SRT for 4 of those yrs, 2: i believe that most of the time you can enforce the law without always giving out a ticket. there are those times though that the asshat just needed a ticket. there are those times ive pulled over a person with no intentions what so ever of giving a ticket, but they decided to be an asshole. so guess what? they got one. i can not in anyway account for canadian cops. i have no clue what the laws there are even like.

not saying this doesnt happen, but did you follow that 90 mph cop to see where he was going? then how do you know what he was doing. there are also light codes depending on where you are. with us it is code 0: normal routine patrolling, obey all traffic laws, no lights, not sirens. code 1: proceed quickly, making sure to clear all intersections, use lights and sirens when clearing. code 2: proceed with caution using lights, clear all intersections using sirens. code 3: proceed very quickly, use lights and sirens, clear all intersections.

here safe following distance is 1 car length for every 10 mph, so 70 mph, 70 feet. iirc you travel 360 feet a second at 55 mph ( a foot ball field a second) you have a minimum of a 1 second to react, you do the math, one car length is not far enough away, and if you drive a big truck you stay even further back, and i get cut off all day for it. i take crap all day i tell ya lol.

granted most do 1 length car at any speed.
