Coolant in TB

Ok guys,

Still haven't fixed my problem, I haven't a chance to work on it much, but I took the TB off today and there was a little bit of coolant in the "grooves." I put it back on but did not tighten it down all the way and when I started the car it ran like it did previously, but when I gave it some gas it would keep from completely stalling. I had someone watch the engine bay and when I gave it the gas coolant was coming out from the seam between the TB and blower casing. When I tightened the TB down it no longer leaked out. Also, when the MAP sensor is plugged in the car will not really even start, when it is unplugged it goes back to running real rough and stalling when not given gas. When the MAF sensor was plugged in it ran the same, when unplugged it would not stall on it's own, I shut it off, but it was surging hard. If you guys have any more ideas they would be greatly appreciated. I'm really trying to avoid taking it to the dealer, especially considering they say they probably won't be able to come up with anything on the computer.

Ok everybody,

One more problem with my wonderful gtp.....I was driving home today, going up a hill the battery light came on, the rpms dropped, and it just died...It will start run badly for a few seconds, making a weird noise, then die. It doesn't move. Luckily I was able to get it the the crest of the hill and coast to the bottom where my house is. I checked my vacuum lines, they all seem to be right, ran the engine with the belt off and it still does the same thing, checked my air filter/ran it with the filter off, same thing...The air filter does look a bit dirtier than when I had it off 2 weeks ago, possibly an oil spot on it? Also, the engine light has not come on, the only lights that come on are the battery light and the low coolant light, and that is a bad sensor. I have a video of the car "running," I'm not sure how much it will help but.....Any suggestions would be helpful, this is my DD so. Thanks in advance!

Re: No Idea - Please Help!!!

Check your battery with a multimeter. With out it running it should be in the upper 12's (12.7) with it running it should be upper 13's lower 14's. All that is volts btw. If this isn't happening your alternator is probably dead

Re: No Idea - Please Help!!!

Ok,

So I tried the multimeter but since it's analog it didn't work so hot for me. I just tried jump starting it though, without the belt on, and the car started right up and ran for a at least 20 seconds so I shut it off. When I put the belt back on and started the car normally it did the same thing as last night. Does this mean the alternator is bad or something else?

Re: No Idea - Please Help!!!

Basic principle is the engine runs the Alternator, which recharged the battery, which is constantly being drained by the engine. If the Alt isnt working, the battery will get low enough, the light will come on at the cluster, car will gradually lose power and eventually won't even try to turn over after it dies.

If you can get it to run for any amount of time with it being jump started (ie, running off another cars alternator, thusly charging your dead battery) then it is either the battery has a bad cell and won't hold a charge *replace it*, or the Alternator is toast *replace it*

If you have alt means of transportation, pull the alt and the battery both, truck them downtown to a local parts store, 90% of them have machines to test both. Its usually free and worth the time to do this :th_thumbsup-wink:

Re: No Idea - Please Help!!!

Ok,

So the alternator was bad, I got it rebuilt, but it seems like it's still not getting the power. Guy at autozone said something about the lead where it goes into the starter has some type of "fuse" that might be shot? I'm looking online now to try and find out how to fix, but anymore suggestions would be helpful! Thanks again!

when whoever refurbished your alternator refurbished it...wouldnt they fix this issue? just sayin

Re: No Idea - Please Help!!!

Fusible link was the term I was looking for back in the last post. No, he just rebuilt the alternator, this is supposedly somewhere between the alt and the starter, a safety feature so that if the alt shorts it stops the short before it fries the rest of the car.

ic...sorry for my incompetence lol

Re: No Idea - Please Help!!!

well I guess that makes us both incompetent, because I didn't know anything about a "fusible link" either until about 20 minutes ago lol...anyway, I think I have the the basic info, but if anyone knows whereabouts the links would be that would be helpful. I'm thinking about going with an alt rewire, any suggestions?

Re: No Idea - Please Help!!!

Ok guys,

The Alernator's been replaced and the car still dies. When the main belt is off the car runs on the battery. When you put the belt on it runs for about 2 seconds then dies. No fusible links are bad, I've had everything checked out alternator wise. I'm assuming it must be a vac line or sensor of some sort. Any thoughts on that? I'd appreciate any help I can get, I really don't want to have it towed to a dealer to find out it's something simple. Thanks again
