Console Question

The shifter on my console has failed, and doesn't want to come out of park. Naturally, no boneyard has a shifter with the M option at the bottom, so I've got to get the one out of my parts car.

As far as I can tell, the top of the console should come off, but I can't get it to move using a screwdriver. Will a crowbar work, or is there some other trick here? Do I need to take off the console lid first?

So, I got the top of the console off, and got the six bolts out of the shifter. The problem now is, I can't figure out how to disconnect the shift cable and what I think is the shift/brake interlock cable. I'm on the verge of using a saw.

Can anyone give me some guidance?

There is a switch behind the brake peddle that releases the shifter to come out of park when the brake peddle is pressed.

I suspect that part has failed not the shifter itself
