Cold-Air Intake

Alright so I've been doing some searching on the forums and can't seem to find anything on a Cold-Air Intake for the 2008 Grand Prix (Base Model)

I've checked everywhere and e-mailed many people , so I figured I would begin asking around here, for better advice than I've been getting

I found this one K&N AirCharger Intake Kit LS4 V8 63-3059 - 04 - PFYC.com

I can't find any others, Thank You in advance for any help that I get.

That one is for the GXP. Most people would say put an open cone on the end of the throttle body, or construct your own cai.

I just went and got a straight, 3" rubber coupler from Lowe's with the 2 clamps already on it, put 1 end on the throttle body, punch a small hole in the rubber for the vacuum hose, maf on the other end, then clamp the filter onto the maf. It's simple, non-restrictive, combined with the filter cost me around 40 dollars, and it really makes the engine roar when you get on it! :th_thumbsup-wink:

AEM 9"X4" CONICAL DRYFLOW AIR FILTER ELEMENT 21-2059DK | eBay

There's a link to the filter I bought, a ton of other people bought it from this forum, too. It's a filter probably worth around 50 or 60 dollars, for 20 shipped... and it fit my maf very well.

Its a hunk of plastic and a $50.00 K&N filter the plastic can't be more than two bucks so can someone tell me why these things are so expensive its just crazy. For the record I threw a GTX hood on mine wit functional air found the sir box that I need for it (an slp no less) at a junkyard for $5.63. I got lucky

Its a smooth molded tube, a tough divider with seals (to keep out heat), a tray built to hold the PCM, and the $50.00 filter.

Now all and all this amounts to about $50.00 worth of materials/design + $50.00 filter + $100.00 Name = $200 + shipping. :th_nanana:

Is it worth the money? on a dyno, no way. You get the same results for 1/5 price but it won't look as nice. Truth be told the divider does nothing if your supercharged because the Heaton will make the air hot as soon as it enters it, so pay the money and have the look, or save and do what most have done... make moar POWA!!!! :th_peaceout:

Now, I'm pretty new to the Grand Prix world, but thanks for all the help

I did have one more question though, if I do a custom Air Intake, will
I get any Engine Codes at all, because I am pushing more air into the engine?

No.

I also have the exact same car that the OP has and was wondering if this kit would work?

57-3049 - K&N 57 Series FIPK, Performance Intake Kit

It is made for the 2005 model, but as far as I have seen and found the cars are identical.

They are nice but they are WAY overpriced. If you just want to blow the money go for it... but ya

There is also a difference in them
57-3049 - K&N 57 Series FIPK, Performance Intake Kit - 04+
57-3045 - K&N 57 Series FIPK, Performance Intake Kit - 97/03

I scouted the local auto parts store and found these from Spectre
Especially for the 04+ Models this should fit you, and save money

8707 - Vaccum Sensor
8705 - Air Mount Sensor
9732 - Air Filter (Your Choice)

They have a pretty cool white one I might purchase

Your missing...

Part #1111111 - Beer

Otherwise, the filter is all you really need.

It may be a Christmas present, so, I am not too concerned about it.

Your in Kansas?

Drive over to my place and I'll build you an intake for a case of beerz.

And yes, I live in Overland Park
