Cobra wheels on a GP?

Does anyone know if a set of 18x9 Saleen Cobra style wheels will fit a GP? I plan to lower the car (maybe 1-1.5"). If so does anyone have pics and/or tire specs as well? Your help would be much appreciated. I'm new to the forum so if I don't resopnd right away it's because I'm having a little trouble navigating my way through the site. Thanks.

dont lower the car, it could cause suspension damage with 18 inch or larger rims and ruin your car permanently unless you cough up really big bucks

what? you have got to be kidding me.

do you know how many people run their cars with 18s, lowering springs, and stock replacement struts? about a billion. the only thing you might have to worry about is vibration when youre accelerating because of the screwed up axel geometry, which is not that hard to fix.

I have to agree with Bio on this one. I ran lowered SSC Gen II's, about a 1.5" drop all around on my GT for almost 3 years without issue and now with my GTX as well with almost the identical setup. Now if you dont install them properly or have them proper aligned, YES that will cause problems, but NOT the ones you mentioned about permanently ruining your car and having to cough up big bucks to fix it.

A little information before hand will prevent almost all those worries before they happen.

good to know. i plan on lowering it about 1.5 inches like most people and i just picked up a set of 18x8 AE 077 wheels in a mustang pattern, so the cobras are out (for now). from what i've researched they are the same offset as the GM pattern but should still fit with the Ford mustang pattern. i'm going to put one on tmw and see how it works out. will i need the engine spacers if i lower it 1.5 inches? did you guys have any problems? ive read some that have and some that havent. any recomedations on tire sizes from any prior experiences?

i see. from what i've read, it can be a hit or miss thing. well, i appreciate everyone's help immensely. i'm kinda new at modding GP's, but hopefully that changes!

i'm not talking about rims, i'm talking about lowering your suspension in addition to rims! your better off junking your ride and wasting the money on a better car than ruining it with sub-par labor, especially if you live in a northern climate

youre still crazy. the rims have nothing to do with suspension wear. and why does the labor have to be sub-par?

with the northern climate, hey, things get rusty. oh well, not much you can do about it.

what do you mean sub-par labor? i'm very mechanically inclined and am very capable of doing a better job than most mechanics. as for the wheels and suspension, i am from buffalo, ny. i know what the roads are like in the northeast. i have two cars that i've own/owned and (cavalier and 69 camaro) that have been lowered with no problems at all. i agree with bio on this subjet. thanks.

around here, people put 23"'s on GP's with a lift kit , it looks ridiculous as all hell. and then they wonder why the transmission burns up lol.... way off topic i know

yeah, i never understood that look? i saw a caprice here with that same set up, and i just don't get it?

its called a "SLAB".. sadly i know this because it originated here in Houston... yea.. theres alot of crap that comes out of here that im not proud of :/

yeah, i wouldn't be proud of it either! hahah...SLAB, huh? what does that mean anyways? do they do that to alot of cars there, or is it just a fad like 4 foot wings on hondas?

its the "fad" that the "gangstas" do lol

but back to topic on hand.. im actually lookingto some cobra R rims (17x9) and im going to test fit one today at my buddies, he's got 275/60 on there im gonna put 255/40 but i just wanna see how it will look and if i need to do any spacing. I do plan on lowering it so i want to see how everyting will pan out, I will take pictures.

Also.. will this cause any extra understeer?

i have those rims, they fit.

i am planning on the same size tires, but have not tried it yet as its a waste to buy tires before winter.

possibly.

Also, FWIW...the SVT Wheels off the Terminator fit too...I used to run the '02 Bullitt wheels and they were 9.5" in the back...I got a pic somewhere I'll post up...but I had 275/45/17's on the back and they seemed fine unless I had about 4 dead bodies in the trunk then they would rub the fenderwell a bit ;)

HELLS YEA..gonna be the best 350$ i ever spent! they are actually shorter height wise than my stock so that will add to the drop about .5 inches

yeah, definately take pics and post them. i'd like to see how they look. which offsets are the one's you're buying (36 or 24mm)? take a pic along side the car too so i can see how far out they stick in the wheel well.

havent had a chance to put them on yet.. but i know they'd look sweet on the car.. last night i placed them and they look sweet i just need to get the time to pop one on
