Climate control issue

Starting about a month ago when the weather started to warm up, I noticed the air conditioner didn't feel nearly as cold as it did the previous summer. So I took out my gauges thinking it just needed a charge. It did not. The next week my wife and I were driving to Houston for the week. She started complaining it was too cold. I'm thinking, what the hell, it's hardly cooling down on my side. So I reached over to feel her vent and guess what, it is ICE COLD. The vents on the drivers side barely blow any cool air. I can turn it to heat and it will burn you out. Turn it to cold, not so much. But the passenger side vents blow freezing air when the A/C is on...strange huh? A week later, I noticed even with the climate control off, I would occasionally see the symbol for the air coming out the vents being displayed. It would flicker on and off. Strange as well. Now today, I leave work and turn the A/C on. Nothing. I could hear the compressor kicking on, but the blower motor would not engage. I left it on to see what would happen. The first time I hit a bump, the blower motor came on. I am suspecting a loose connection somewhere. Sadly, the bump didn't fix the cold air not coming out the drivers vents.

Soooo...has anyone had this issue before? I am not very familiar with the dual climate control systems. I would guess one or more of the "flaps" inside the control box are not opening or closing properly. Other guess might be the controller is on its way out. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

kingjohn1027,

I agree with "dsmuts". It may be the blend door, blower motor or a combination of the two. You may want to consider having the vehicle inspected by a certified technician. They will be able to offer additional information, as well as repair options.

you need to take the plastic off under the dash driver side, and the steel knee bolster, the piece under the dash by your feet, carpeted cardboard, and look in to the center of the dash for this little guy. "this is not for your car dont buy it" just what it looks like. eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices you get to the d/s from underneath the dash, you are taking off the plastic and knee bolster only so you can see into the side of the air box. and see what you are doing.

what happens is inside of this actuator the gears crack or the little motor quits.

on the pass side remove the glove box and look to your left (side of the air box) you will see another actuator as well. same design.

you can take these off and see if the little knobs turn easy or not as well. also run the temp from hot to cold and watch the hole spin in the actuator to see if its working or not. while the key is on run or running.

Thanks for the info! I plan to inspect both blend door actuators this weekend. Since reading your responses, I payed close attention to the climate control while switching from heat to cool. I can definitely hear a "clunking" noise coming from the drivers side. In regards to the blower motor, this morning I turned the fan on. Again, nothing. I smacked the glovebox and the fan came on. I plan on replacing the blower motor while I am changing the actuator out. I will keep everyone posted. Thanks again!
