clear coat after polish?

I'm having my aluminum wheels polished in a couple more days, they will be stripping them bare then polish. The question I have if it's best to apply a clear coat after which could take some of the shine away or leave them bare polished and polish them again whenever necessary?

I would never recommend putting a clear over polished wheels. They are aluminum so they won't be as bad as chrome in terms of corrosion. Yeah they can easily be polished again to bring back the shine.

ok I see, I had planned to leave them bare polished and re-polish them when necessary I just wanted to know if that actually worked out. thanks!

i like clear coat. then you can just wash and wax like normal. polishing is for the birds.

they make really nice powdercoating clears now.

I don't even know how to say powder coating in spanish lol! (seriously) I know the translation, but I don't know how would they call that here and if anyone even does that kind of paint. I would love to find out though.

I have seen clear coat come off polished wheels before and it never looks good. The clear oxidizes, and it shows with age. Granted powder coating would be the way to go, it is much more durable.

it'll last just fine if it's taken care of. just like a stock set of wheels.

those are cleared over the polished aluminum.

My only concern about the clear coat is that it may take some of the shine away or so the person doing the job said. This is the look that I'm looking for in the next few months:

I already ordered the black center caps. I'm rebuilding and painting all 4 calipers on Monday. Then probably take off the wheels to get them polished and in January I'm getting drilled / slotted rotors all around (I know it's just for looks lol). Then the ceta fascia, I also ordered one of tail lights since one of mine is darkened because of water filtration. I'll see how it work outs with my car in white, if not I'll get it painted in red.

Those wheels are up for sale in ls1tech they are chrome I think. Yours look alright I will see if they have any other wheels polished with clear coat. They ha a set but most of them were painted and just a few polished stripes with clear coat.

Some powders do indeed take away from the shine on polished parts... but a very high gloss, higher end powder you wouldn't see any dulling with. I clear all of my polished parts without issues.
