Civic SI - KILL with all capitals :)

So after work I attended a work meeting where we all gather in a conference table and talk crap before the meeting begins. One of my buddies which I haven't seen in a while and drives a 2008 Civic SI starts talking a bit smack about his car and my "GTP" , making fun of my car in the process.

Well we have raced before and it was close but I still won which I don't get why he wanted to race again, I do have an XP cam with #105 , north* , headers and other goodies on my car now with a Reptile tune :). Well we leave the meeting he hops on his car on off we go. He pulls next to me at a light and without notice takes off on the light which i was a bit surprise but I still caught up to him at 60 mph .

The next light we line up again and this time we are both ready. He starts revving his engine and I just basically wait for the green light. Green lights up and my car gives me a bit torque steer but still managed to put about 3 cars by the time I hit 80 mph :) He catches up and tells me that I had a better launch :) (better car) . Moral of the story GTP>Civic SI anyday.

stock for stock SI should win...lol
but with XP cam and supporting mods you should be mid 13's and using his honderp to wipe your ass. bet he shut up after that.

My gutted GTP with just headers and a 3.4 on it destroyed SI's and RSXs daily unless on the interstate @ over 100MPH then your going to get reeled in because he will have better gears and more RPM to use.
 
Gotta know how to pick your battles race him on the interstate and your going to lose. From a dig you should be far enough ahead that it wont matter by the time he catches back up.

I still can't and don't agree. You had a GTP with weight reduction and mods vs stock vehicles...if you didn't win that'd be sad. The power to weight ratio of the two vehicles is nearly identical. Yes, the GP has more torque. I'm not debating that. But, the SI is going to pull up to it by the end of the track. Remember...horsepower = the rate at which torque is produced...so even though the SI doesn't have a lot of torque, it produces that torque effortlessly and in a lighter body stock for stock.

And if you think a gutted GTP coupe is as light as a SI your HIGH my friend.
 


An easy 700ish lb weight difference. plus those 08 Si's are those older engine i believe k24 and are only good for low 15s. Now the 2013 and up are the mid-high 14 cars.
 
The GTP had a cam which means it should be faster than my gutted car was even with the weight out of mine. Were not talking a 2 mile race here I already stated on the interstate the W body is going to get reeled because it doesn't have the rpm and gears the SI does.
 
Im heading to work to hear all about it, another buddy was behind us so hopefully he has video. That SI had no chance at all dig, roll any type of race I still would had won . My car is running strong :)
 
Local had a new Si when the redesign came out in '05 or '06...

Ran consistant 14.5's with a catback at mid 90's.

While they don't have torque, they've got close ratio gearing to keep them in the high RPM powerband.

Most GTP's are getting old and tired, so running 14's without doing some little work is going to tough anymore. I'd bet stock for stock, especially the new 2.4 cars, will yank a GTP hard after 40~ mph. More torque or not.

the potential of the 8th Gen civics are impressive...11 sec supercharged civics are literally popping up everywhere here on the East coast...on stock internals, stock clutch, and low boost numbers even.... (upgraded clutch it usually recommended at minumum)
