• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Chef's "KILLER" Twin Ladies

Re: New to moddin, kinda new to site, long time gp lover

That was just a stock cam that is literally useless other than decoration or making into a lamp.
MAN!! You're messin' up my mod fund!! I'll grudgingly sell it for $50. it's got alot of sentimental valuer ya know...

Re: New to moddin, kinda new to site, long time gp lover

And the engine is out. Today, I will continue the tear down to get all the fun stuff off the engine...cam, rockers, heads, lifters...you know. I plan on washing down everything in a parts washer and inspecting everything for signs of wear. FYI, if it looks damaged, it's not making it back into the new engine.[/QUOTE]

Thanks for the update Jay. Lemme know what is destroyed, other than the bottom end.

Re: New to moddin, kinda new to site, long time gp lover

So, the old engine is tore down. No damage to anything...other than the rod bearings on cylinder 4 were spun. I wish I had pictures, but my cell died before I could. I'll post some up tomorrow night. I'll be taking the heads down and washing them to get any metal out that may still be in there and then the disassembly of the new engine and reassembly with all the fun parts will occur. Engine should be back in Friday. Fun week for me.

Hmm interesting...cylinder 4 was the misfire as well. Was the misfiring the cause of the bearing failure? Anywho, I apreciate the updates and be sure to thank your Dad for letting my car use his garage again. :)
If the GM Nationals meet ends up a go, I'll save the spare bedroom for ya (VIP status)

Re: New to moddin, kinda new to site, long time gp lover

Ok...your car is alive again. I'm going to work out some of the bugs out of it...work on the tune a bit. Just dial it in a little better. Also, this means I'm going to be putting some mileage on the car. :)

Re: New to moddin, kinda new to site, long time gp lover

It runs, it drives...can't ask for much more than that. Trans cooler lines are starting to seep (noticed when I unloaded off the trailer) so you should be looking for a set of those. Otherwise, it's loud, bouncy, and doing well. I'll continue tweeking the tune during the week.

Re: New to moddin, kinda new to site, long time gp lover

As far as the 10w30, that's what the early L36 wanted for oil. I noticed about a 7 PSI difference in oil pressure on my own engine between 5w30 and 10w30. Early block likes thicker oil.

Re: New to moddin, kinda new to site, long time gp lover

UPDATE: put the 10w30 in her today. idling a little lower but not seeing any of the idle fluxes like before. Also dropped in half bottle of Lucas...see? I'm learning :)
Also, might be buying a '99 GP SE with the GT body for $500. Owner claims head gasket blown...hmm..hopefully it's the LIM gasket and I can flip the car. If nothing else, it's got new tires and pristine tail light assemblies on it. PARTS CAR!!

Re: Chef's "KILLER" L36

After reading various threads and posts on Valve Springs, I can honestly say I made a mistake installing LS6 springs. So, I will be pulling them this spring/summer and installing 105's... live and learn then get boost! Also looks like I will be the proud owner of a '99 SE :D

Re: Chef's "KILLER" L36

Okay! Just checking since its obvious that your modding make sure boost was a option.

Re: Chef's "KILLER" L36

Never a dull moment. After switching out the sensor plugs ( I disconnected the battery as always) the trans. starting shifting funny. Figured the history was lost and needed to re-learn settings...no biggie. After a week of driving, shifting is hard at low throttle and slipping at moderate/high throttle. Just checked the trans. fluid....red with black "soot" mixed in :( Guess this d*mn thing is on it's last leg. Can't I catch a break?!
