CB radio

Should I buy a CB radio? I'm looking at a $30-50 one nothing too fancy I wouldn't get an antenna either it's just something I could play with in my car (not while driving) would that be useful? What kinda range could I see out of one? I'd like about 10-15miles

I think usually they are good for like 5 miles or so. My dad has a ton of CB equipment in our basement including huge whip antennas and a 200 watt kicker. He said he used to walk all over everyone with it. I have always wanted to put on in my car, but cant get any friends to do it so what fun is that hahah

When I was younger and drove older Chevy Trucks, I had a radioshack CB with dual antennas, used to get "Smokey Reports" from the truckers on the highway, CB lingo is funny too. I had fun with mine and if your friends get one it's easier than using a cell phone. Although everyone that is monitoring your channel can listen in on what your saying, also if someone has a higher powered CB they can step on your conversation. In trucker lingo cars and regular trucks are called "4 wheelers" LOL.

YEa, CB are great. I have a hand held radio shack model that I have used on long car trips when one or more cars are involved, you can get a lot of information on them also. SOmetimes range can be an issue, but it is still free use of the air waves, which is probably why I am the last person on Earth that does not have a cell phone, and will avoid at all cost with exception of emergencys, which I still have my cb for.

I use a hand held one in my car and my friend has a cb mounted in his grand am. We use them all the time when we drive around on the weekends

if you get a car mounted CB, you will need a antenna, or it wont work at all. depending on the unit and size of your antenna will dictate your range.

the Motorola's we used at work had a about a 200 mile range. it was a private channel but still a cb.

i hear ya, but putting it on and taking it off will wear on the paint, especially if the car is dirty when you put it on. some kind of flet should help out, or just leave it on all the time. or just lay it in the trunk and use what ever range you get out of it.
