Car starts up and dies

So I drove the car this morning for about 20 mins into work. Noticed nothing wrong. Car sits all day while I'm at work. I get back to my aunts where my car is and it starts (turned over instantly) and then dies 2 seconds later. Car gets up to 1200 and dies. I tried giving it gas a bit but it does the same thing. Got it towed to my mechanic...won't get to it until tomorrow though. No CEL is on.

Don't think it's a fuel issue. It is below a quarter tank though. Maybe an air issue or a bad sensor?

TPS?

Help

sounds like the mass airflow sensor took a crap. unplug it and start the car and see if it stays running

Sounds like it might be your MAP sensor. Mine would stall out and then would have trouble starting and staying on if I got higher than 1200 rpm.

Fuel pump resistor/relay, might be MAF or MAP sensor, or it may be a problem with the FATS, but that's not very likely.

He should be working on it by now. No word from him yet though

Could it be something with the Chip in the key? Security system?

i find it strange that it just happened after the car was sitting. No cel. No trouble starting. No matter how much gas you give...if any...still just dies.

We are going with the resistor. Definitely a fuel issue. Getting up to pressure when you turn the key but cuts out right after you start it.

Unfortunately he he can't get it until tomorrow

Is this how it always plays out with these resistors? Will I notice the car running better after it's fixed? It seemed to be running fine

could always be FATS (Factory Anti-Theft System) - sometimes it'll start the car but die soon afterwards, although 04 should have a transponder key and wouldn't start in the first place.

more likely the resistor.

FATS? GM called it VATS as long as the resistor was in the key. I think 99 was still vats in the GP.

To check the resistor, you can bend one tab on a relay and know for free.

Well it's fixed. Has to go back to him tomorrow. Got it back and the parking lights fog lights and taillights don't come on

any guesses
