I picked up a set of snow tires for free. They are new and the previous owner just wanted them out of thier garage. Question is, could I run these on my wife's grand prix. It's a 2004 grand prix gt. The size on there now is 225/60/16. These are 205/60/16. It's about an inch shorter in height, and just under an inch shorter in width.
She's due for new tires, but I thought that if I could, I would use these for this winter and then get new tires in spring.

Same rim size...

Same sidewall height...

tire is just 20mm skinnier...

would it work?

Sure.

I wouldn't stretch a tire ever anyways...but that's me.

Sidewall wouldn't be the same height nick. They'd be off some. I'd just get a different set of rims to run them on and swap when needed.

given it was right right sidewall height, i'd run it. 205 on a 6.5" wide wheel is easy as pie. and it'll go through snow well with that skinny tire.

Its NOT the right sidewall height.

225/60 has a 135mm sidewall
205/60 has a 123mm sidwall
That's a difference of 24mm overall

i didn't say it was. context clues.

i'm actually referring to it as not the right sidewall height.

I live in Alaska and run that exact tire on spare rims and it performs perfectly in the Winter and much better then 225. The speedo is off but that is no big deal.
