Camo guy's thread about cams

Re: Doing an engine rebuild

Read the modding thread.

Pick which plugs you want to run.

Drive to parts store, pay ZERO shipping costs and pay the dude at the counter and walk out spending less than 15-20 bucks on plugs.

Re: Doing an engine rebuild

I know what plugs to get, only problem is, not everyone sells them. Like I said, autozone and rock auto don't have them

Re: Doing an engine rebuild

So go to napa or oriellys.

Rockauto will have them, but they won't be under a grand prix. Because the 3800 does not call for those type of plugs, so they won't list them.

You'd have to do more research and figure out what kind of car or truck runs those type of plugs and order them that way. But hitting up a local place is quicker.

I know for a fact that napa will have any type of plug you are looking for.

Re: Installing new cam

Do the compressor unbolt it and done, plus makes it easier to take out the engine.

Re: Doing an engine rebuild

This thread looks a lot like your cam build thread, meaning...where's the engine rebuild parts?

If you want to rebuild an engine, find your machine shop.
Consider forged pistons
New rings
Consider having the lower end balanced
All new bearings
Refresh oil pump
Tank and paint block
While it's apart, having head work done will be nice

If you aren't actually rebuilding the motor, but merely reposting your cam install. Then once again you are missing a bunch of things and please refer to your other thread for the gaskets you are missing. You are definately missing a few things.

Re: Doing an engine rebuild

Dude... If you google'd the 103's or 605's or whatever, you'd get a list of who has them and what they'll cost...
Just sayin!

There are different levels of rebuilds but you're right. I'm not working on the crankshaft or anything. I did ask a moderator to change the title of the thread to cam install/engine rebuild too.

Re: Doing an engine rebuild

So what about the things you agreed you needed in your other thread and let's talk about engine rebuild..what's your level? Cause if you are calling some gasket swapping a rebuild, this is another cam swap thread. You'll be doing most of the gaskets possible on the cam swap.

I don't necessarily think that is the issue here. Although I did ask for the threads to be merged but oh well.

Re: Installing new cam

Dude.. pretend it's my first time. Follow my write up and you'll find it's faster, easier and better than almost anything else you can find on the internet.

Not to toot my own horn...but others have confrimed it.

Not quite, I'm still acquiring the parts. Still need the cams, springs, and retainers. Debating if I want to spend another $2000 rebuilding the block (rods pistons etc) and an intercooler. Just got an engine hoist. Making sure I do all the research I can before I start taking apart the engine. I'm also debating how to redo my exhaust since it all needs replaced anyway to comply with Pennsylvanias emissions tests.
