CAM or no CAM???

Because you can't even compare the 1.95's to the lift of a VS.

That's what doesn't compute.

Rockers are lame, been there done that. 1.84's are hardly even different than your 1.80's...and my XP swap made beyond noticeable gains with the same pulley...

Proof in the pudding, my XP yanked your car HARD on the highway, and I was only on a 3.4"...vs. your 3.1".

If you cammed your car now Jarred, there would be EASILY seen gains to be had...you don't know the low/midrange power a cam can make over rockers...I'm not trying to kick you in the nuts over it...but on a Vogel mindset, unless you've got some dumb setup like he did and a retardedly gutted race-oriented direction...rockers are a DECENT upgrade if you want a better flowing top end, but its still boring.

to each their own... If youre not gonna go too far with your car, early on, a cam wont net you much more power than some 1.9s.So, if your main goal is mid 13s (ish), that's easily achievable on a stock cam and rockers (trust me) ...

However, dont let someone scare you out of a cam by telling you rockers are more "reliable" than a cam because thats just silly. Done right and tuned properly, anything can be reliable....

A cam should put me in high 12's...thats what a lot of guys are running with cams and the right tune and launch...I ran mid 13's with my gtp with a 3.4 setup and headers and TB (13.5 at best).

That all depends on your driving habits, budget, ability to tune/work on the car, and what you ultimately want out of it.

Also...never EXPECT to run "X" time at the drag strip just because you did "Y" mod...biggest disappointment ever.

unless you go with something like an xpz, on a stock car there isn much difference in a street cam and rockers performance wise...

cams shine more down the road WAY more than rockers ever could and there is no denying that but early on they may only net you a few more ponies and torque... not much more...

That's very false. Cam adds power all over.

Rockers won't even flow enough to allow you drop a pulley.

What they do is slow down the drop off torque.

So instead of making peak power between 5100-5500, power keeps climbing until 5700.

The lift isn't the main concern here. Its ramp rate.

are you wanting to cam and top swap a gt or that gtp you just mentioned?


I meant I used to have a gtp a few years ago and that ran mid 13s. Now I have a GT that Im top swapping. Sorry for any confusion
 


lol. i was just pointing out that some ppl's goals are only to get the car to gain 40-50 ponies. which you can accomplish with headers/rocker/3.4 etc. but if you want more outta the car than i agree that a cam is the only way to go.
 
i loved my xp cam, definitely an awesome street cam. my IS3 cam isnt so bad on the street but mpg are suffering a little since my tune isnt done yet. XP didnt effect my MPG at...my foot did though. :D
 


Im not taking over this guys thread to go back and forth on the cam vs rocker debate... Im going off info I got from Zoom before I put the rockers in...

he was asking if he should cam or not and how much it would cost etc etc and I simply said it all depends on what his ultimate goals are...

Because if he didn wanna go through the whole cam install time/expense and goal was a low 13 sec car, it would be better to do rockers...

Im not denying if I put a cam in it would be a night and day difference but thats also because its pretty highly modified and not at all the point I was trying to make...

In no way am I saying rockers are better than a cam thats just silly... but it COULD have been an easier option depending on what he wanted...
