Calling all moto droid users

Anyone on here have the new motorola droid through VZW? Ive been thinking of getting one and I have a $100 credit for a new phone so I could have one for $100. I just got a free VZW usb modem because Im always moving because of the military. My major question is how well does the GPS through google work, and who knows what application I need to tether the droid to my laptop for internet? I want to get rid of standalone devices like GPS and USB modem. I think this moto droid can handle all that. Anyone got one?????
 


i have one and love it. the GPS works great. never made me get lost. as far as the tethering i think you pay for that but i dont know. i love the phone. i would say get it. and when the phone is on wifi it is faster than my computer! lol hope this helps
 
I dont know about the tethering but i do know its a sweet phone My mom got one and now i want one its fast and has a ton of apps
 
It uses android operating systems and i know droidfoums.net has a ton of info but havnt digged much into it. Seems like out the door for a $100 is a really good deal. :th_biggrin2:
 
I have the G1 and i love the gps by google, the voice gets a little annoying from time to time, but thats what mute is for, as fasr as tethering, im not sure about that model of phone, but i know with my droid i had to root my phone and install cyanogen mod to use the tethering.
 


my cousin has one, its pretty sweet. i either want this or the ipod touch... anyone know when the new touch is supposed to come out?
 
I've got it, it's like one of the coolest things I've ever owned. The gps stopped working today while driving and I got completely lost though, but there's also some wierd teapot whistling noise in the earpiece so I think I just need to exchange the phone.

How can this be the coolest thing you own if youre having problems with it?? Skeeve got anymore information on what you said and the cyanogen mod? I read a little about this on droidforums.net
 
I've got one and love it. There are tons of apps, some are completely useless, just fun, or really useful.

PdaNet will let you connect to the internet through your laptop, it's free and damn fast to.

Sounds good sure everything has a few issues now my ? is should I return the USB modem (30 day trial for returnall Im paying now is the 5 gig usage) I got for free and buy a droid and slave that for internet? It would be even better if it was unlimited like the google system on the droid. Hell if that were true Id go buy one for myself and my wife and never use home internet cable or tv ever again. All through VZW would be fine with me. So anyone know how much internet I can get out of the droid if slaved to my laptop? More than 5 would be excellent.:th_scratchhead: DAMN what should I do??

It's unlimited with the data plan, it's fast for loading regular pages and images, but as soon as you try and load a video. flash. or gif it's kinda slow.

If you're just simple web browsing like the forum, facebook, google, etc you'll be good. But when you go to download big files or load videos/movies it'll be quite a bit slower than your home network. If you're gunna do it make sure you get the unlimited plan, theres 2, unlimited data and unlimited web for smartphone, if you get the cheaper one you only get unlimited for the phone, when you plug into the computer they start charging you.
