Buying a Camaro Z28 1991...Thoughts?

Cam not crank. I'm still amazed they went through the work of tearing the motor down, getting it bored .030 over and leaving the stock cam in

There is a cam, I asked the guy, it shows at idle too, very noticeable.

But the price is high considered US standards. I might get one there, I'll shop around

theres a 99 z28 camaro down here thats damn near perfect and under 100k. for 5 k obo....thats an ls car for half the price. if you pay for that we are never speaking again

I don't know man. First off, I can't stand the look of those 4rth gen Camaro, I think they are plain ugly unless some short of lip is added. Second, the car I "might" buy is TOP condition, like new. Engine and tranny have been rebuilt and they only have 10k on it. New brakes, new tires, sounds system, shift kit, cam, rockers, headers, lifters, intake, port and polish, gauges, drivetrain, you see a lot of money has been "invested".

I took two whole weeks to compare, did not find a car in that shape yet, and I don't want to buy a stock one, it's gonna end up costing me more, I know myself :o

I guess prices in Quebec are fkin high. Importing a car is a ****load of trouble, inspection, evaluation, canana conversion, etc.

I already brought down the price to 9k...gonna work a bit more.

If the body is mint, its worth the coin.

5 grand gets you a NICE one, but not mint....

Showroom condition these are worth 12 and up.

A 355 isn't **** unless he's telling you which cam, heads and rotating assy.

What trans is it? Who was it built by?

So if it was a roller, yeah great.

But it sounds like you're looking at those mods as if they increase the value of the car.

They dont. Based on the complete lack of information on it, I'd venture to guess its not worth the 10, but closed to 6 or 7.

Rear spoiler is BEYOND ugly though.

Hated that about the last couple years.

They're ugly.

But its worth putting up with for the mere fact that the powertrain is much better.

Rest of the car is about the same though....

Minus the brakes.

nice car thats for sure (i wana rock a ls1 3rd gen someday)

but in all reality for $9500 USD you can but a good shape LS1 with mods that will flat out run it sadly. And yes that is a ways overpriced.

Around here...

Lowest I've seen an LS1 car for was 7000.

Most are 9-12.

Unless they're convertible and low mile, then its straight to the 16-25K range.

Exactly the same here.

The seller has all the bills in his possession, including mods, I'll take a better look at it. Paint looks very new to me, with a glossy finish, showroom condition for sure. Mods have been done by a mechanic who built a lot of muscle cars, that's all I know. Engine compression is excellent, I checked the evaluation.

Once again, car has been evaluated at 15k by a professional, and usually those are conservative.

Spoiler? I feel neutral about it, looks better in person, but then again, not the nicest part.

In Canada, 10k won't get you a really good condition LS1, and it will be stock, and ugly (I hate 4th gens, I'd rather keep my GTP).

Id kill to have a 3rd gen with an LS1 swap.

Seriously man, if you want it get it. This is the last site I would take car buying advice on. If I did I would be wrenching on my car daily.

Trust me you'd be much happier with an LS1 Formula, TA, or WS6. Very reliable engine, makes great power, and still pull pretty damn good gas mileage. My 98 Formula busted 12.7's @ 112mph at our last track day and still pulls 30mpg on the highway. Plus it's straight up sexy.
