Busted Motor

Hey all, I'm new here, so bear with me. I just bought a 2000 Grand Prix with the K code 3.8. It's got a broken con rod, so I'm obviously replacing the engine. I may be able to acquire a 1997 Bonneville with a K code 3.8 as well for a donor. My questions are these-has anyone here removed the engine from the top(opposite the recommended per Alldata's info) on a 2000? Also, is there major parts swapping to use the motor from the 97, if at all possible? These are both Canadian cars. Thanks.

I have done both through the top and bottom . A lot less fighting to just take it out of the top with the tranny . I just like to detail things when I do it . It's a personal preference really

My preference would be to leave the tranny in the 2000, if possible. Is there enough room to get the motor out? I should mention I do have access to a vehicle hoist.

Thanks, although it doesn't really address any specific vehicle. I know that the manual asks to remove engine and trans together by dropping the subframe and motor/trans together.

Its the same idea for all cars with this engine/transmission setup. The write up tells you how to pull just the engine, or a couple posts later there is additional info on pulling them both as a unit. Much easier from the top for just the engine.
