Broke a Trans Sensor

So, I was jacking up the car and the jacked slipped off the frame and boom right into the sensor sitting on the side of the trans pan. It is broken off now and a little bit of trans fluid is dripping out of the hole so how do I replace it? Will i need to do a whole pan drop for this? see pics....

Knock sensor? Nope.


Thats his oil level sensor for the oil pan. Oil pan = black, trans pan is long and flat and will say M6 on the pan and its aluminum.

Knock sensor are 1 wire and round, you can see it directly above his starter, its gray and round with 1 wire.
 
Forgive me I've been doing a lot of drugs.... Ya it's my oil level sensor. Idk how I got it confused with my trans pan. Not like I've never changed oil
 


So it won't be so bad to replace.... I will just drain oil since its time to change it anyways and then I can drop oil pan? And I'll get the sensor for another gp at the yard
 
Dropping the oil pan would take you atleast a weekend if not more if you've never done it before and have limited knowledge.

Alot of work to get the oil pan down on one of these cars.

Just try pulling it the rest of the way out, it looks like the wires are still holding it on there.
 
looks like you can just pull the old one out and drop in a new one with out removing the pan, thats just from a real quick google search.

I don't know why i was thinking it was knock sensor lol
 
you do not need to remove the pan to replace the oill level sensor

remove what's left of the sensor you have (after draining your oil obviously) and screw a new sensor into the bung
 
id go buy a new one so you can see what your dealing with, then remove the old one.

it looks like with 2 picks you can pull the rest of the plastic out, and then the sensor is at the end of the wires. this is how i understand it from what i posed in that link.
 


The oil sensor is a float switch. It protrudes about 3" into the pan and it's all plastic. I think if you're careful and use an easy out, you can get it out without trashing it. It's not that tight of a fit into the bung (ie you dont need a ton of torque to remove it) as it's sealed with an o-ring and flange (not via the threads). I bet if you got an easy out in there and it grabbed, you could remove it without a wrench and in one piece.

If it were me, I would try this as removing the oil pan is a gigantic pain in the ass.
