Bridgestone Blizzaks

So I have a chance to acquire a brand new set of 225/55/17 Bridgestone Blizzaks for my stock Enkei's for $600 dollars instead of the original list price of $900.

Any input from people who have run winter tires before? Pros? Cons? Was it worth having the winter tire over a set of all seasons? I do plan to purchase wider summer wheels and wider summer tires, later on.

If you want to have a dedicated set of performance summer tires, and you live somewhere where you experience a winter, then yes I would recommend a set of winter tires.

no compromise for winters when it comes to snow/ice. definately a good investment for $600.00. that and your summer tires will last longer since you won't be running them year round.

Do it!

I used to run snow tires many years ago, but stopped due to driving a 4x4. A few years back I had to retire my 4x4 and had to rely on my car (Thunderbird SC, lowered) for all weather driving. This car sucked in the snow with the "all-season" tires on, but when I got some snow tires on, holy crap what a difference. Instant traction and hard to kick out the rear end. I had forgotten how much traction a snow tire can provide.

I am a firm believer in snow tires. Sadly I need the extra traction to avoid the other idiots that choose to run summer or all-season tires in the snow.

snowmobile:Blizzak ws 60s, 70s are even better.

I should be pulling the trigger on this soon.
TireRack has the WS70's for $550 a set
They also have the LM-32 run flat tires for $790 a set.

Does anyone else who runs or have ran winter tires, have any input on why they prefer winter tires over a good set of all season tires? Has anyone ran WS70's or LM-32's on their own vehicle? What did you think about one or the other? Do you think it is worth the extra cash for run flats? Which do you prefer? Discuss.

The best all season tires will perform worse than the crappiest winter tires. You don't realize this until you've actually used winter tires. The reason why I didn't go with Blizzaks is because the tires aren't as responsive as the Dunlop wintersport 3D's at higher speeds. This is true when your on an expressway as the tires have a tendency to not track as well. I was driving 100 miles a day on the expressway so I wanted tires that tracked well at high speeds and this is where the wintersport 3d's really excel in. The blizzaks and dunlop 3d tires are some of the best snow tires so you can't go wrong either way.

I should have mentioned that the car in the picture is mine and i'm running ws 60s, I also have two ws70 as spares since they stopped making the 60s. The 70s grip slightly better but that is a non issue since the 60s are no longer made. The ws series is slightly unstable at speeds above 70 and wears faster, but at low speeds i have been extremely happy and have not been stuck once. My commute is mixed city and highway. The lm series are more stable at higher speeds, but less capable at in thick snow and ice. So it depends on whether or not you will spend most of your time on the highway...

Stay away from run flats, unless you don't want to keep a spare. I find them very stiff. Winters significantly outperform my hankook 19s and rft bridgestone 16s all seasons.
