Brando's All New Cruze

Re: Brodon's 02 GT

oh yea the new ones are awesome! can't believe how easy it was to change! just put a pair of vice grips on it, tugged a little twisted a little and poof!
going back in, i just grabbed a pair of pliers and pressed it right back in.

Re: Brodon's 02 GT

no change in voltage issue. gonna have to revisit that, maybe alternator? who knows..

gonna re-wire the ic pump tomorrow night. gotta check out some other things too... engine temps were floating on the way home today, heat started acting up. :th_shakinghead2:
this is gonna be fun.

Re: Brodon's 02 GT

OH yeah, nice car, Brandon. Hope it lasts long time.

The sig would look good with lowered after intercooled

Re: Brodon's 02 GT

So. Today I got to spend quite a bit of time with her. First things first I got the intercooler pump harness and wired it in. So the ic is working again :) yayyy

Next I did spark plugs, replaced the ngk tr8s for al104s. gapped at .050. Easy peasy. And a couple weeks ago I noticed the coolant was low, last weekend I filled up the rad, and then throughout this week I have been topping it off and topping it off. So today I topped it off again while letting it run, bled it, it spewed out air, and then shut her down. So let's see if she loses any more coolant... I hope not. But to require a gallon to fill her up over the course of a week is no bueno.

And then I just checked some odds and ends. I know there was some issue with the pcv valve not functioning (not sure if the ic is reason or not) and I really dont like the filter on the oil cap so I pulled out the pcv valve and it's upside down so no wonder it didn't work. Will test that theory a bit more later.

Also dicked around checking the alternator output, at idle it is in fact pumping out some pretty low volts so I have gotta get in touch with autozone to see if it's still warrantied. Checked the resistance in the wiring for the ext temp sensor and it's all bumfuzzled, guess I don't need it anyway :/

And finally, idk what the deal is with the throttle cables and such. Seems it doesn't want to quite close completely when you let off the throttle unless you jab it. I've replaced springs and oiled everything, tried another tps sensor, just sorta out of ideas... so if you have thoughts let me know.

Other than that I took her out for a spirited drive tonight probably pissed off the tranny a tad lol. She looks good even though it was just a rain wash.

Re: Brodon's 02 GT

take the cable off, make sure the tb springs back on its own. start it, test it.

then you can slide the cable in and out, is it smooth or sticking?

Re: Brodon's 02 GT

I did all that. It SEEMS as if with the cables disconnected the tb closes smoothly just fine. I think it's in the main throttle cable. Because when I was testing the cable only, it had a little stickiness to it. Which... I sprayed some silicone lube on the cable but I don't think it helped any. Dunno what to do about a sticky cable.

Re: Brodon's 02 GT

nah. i left the cruise one disconnected, same dealio. you can replace the cables? easily? how and where to purchase?

Re: Brodon's 02 GT

rock auto, parts store, junk yards.

look under the dash at the cable where it hooks on. most cars have some sort of plastic clip that hold the cable in the end of the lever a top the gas pedal, the cable goes through the fire wall. most have a square plastic clip on the cable, you pinch 2 sides in and pull on it and comes off the fire wall.

Re: Brodon's 02 GT

probably wouldn't be too bad. id rather practice on a jy car lol. but yah found some on rockauto just not sure if theres one for the cruise or if this one is the one i need. its 23.5 inches long

im wondering if i could get some sort of lubricating/penetrating oil that would help?

Re: Brodon's 02 GT

wont help, its like when your brake cables on your bike would wear out, the cable frays inside. its a matter of time before it sticks at wot.

last one i got i got from a dealer out on long island. for my 97 truck, i had a string tied to the TB for 20 miles to get there, changed it in their lot. i think it was like 30 bucks.

Re: Brodon's 02 GT

well i need to go to the dealer anyway. and im finding many different part numbers for this online and i want the right one. so i may just go check them out. see how much they charge. watch it be 400 dollars or something. say ohhhh no thanks

Re: Brodon's 02 GT

So this week has been a little crazy, but I did get the throttle cable picked up and the floorboard fix cowl piece. Also took the old alternator to AZ for a free replacement

Mr. Dan and I worked on the car today and got all of the above changed out. The throttle cable was not the piece of cake everyone made it out to be. I'd be more than happy to detail our experience lol.
It appears after... a week or whatever it's been, it's only "lost" a little coolant. So perhaps its something to do with the long hose to the overflow tank or the water to coolant mix ratio... Either way it's not significant enough to stand outside in the teens snowing to figure out where it's going :)

I have verified the new alternator pretty much put a kibosh on the electrical issues. The sticky throttle thing..eh. Not sure. It still likes to hang in there at 1% and it's idling high. I've got a couple codes for TPS sensor and one for idle being too high. But the tps seems to be working fine. So I've still gotta work that out.

All in all, she's hangin in there. Just need to figure out when and if I'm gonna do the front struts at least just to get it back up to stock height, get the axles changed out, and then tires and tranny this year. HOPEFULLY.

Re: Brodon's 02 GT

things is I have two TPS sensors laying around. both are giving data to the aerofoce. so idk where the issue lies, if there even is one. the codes are for low voltage and intermittent low voltage

Re: Brodon's 02 GT

If someone took the tb apart before you bought they may have slapped the blade in there and it maybe contacting on the inside leaving a very small gap for air to get by ie your tps is reading 1% of throttle. Another problem could be the tb gasket leaking air in but if that was the case you would see higher rpms than what you see now. Also this gives you the chance to clean it out perfectly

Also if the TB gasket was leaking the LTFTs would be all screwy.
