Boostin question

I have a few questions about supercharging the 3800. I'm posting this here since I have a '05 N/A and have further questions, and I know several members are boosted that post EVERYWHERE! And I've already considered the turbo option. Just don't have the money to shell out 4k.(Edit: Counting an intercooler) :)

First question, I'm thinking about buying a whole engine assembly for $750 bones so that way I will have all the parts. What does a person look for in a worn out abused supercharger? I know the couplers tend to wear, but is there a way to check this without cracking it open? I just don't want to throw on a S/C and it be ****. Or, should I just rebuild it before it even touches the engine? I plan on replacing the S/C oil at least before I decide to put it on, if I do.

Seconds question, I have read mixed feelings on getting a S/C fuel sender. Anyone have a solid answer with support? Or is it sort of a mod extensive item? So far what I have and planned, CAI, headers with straight to muffs, 180* T-stat, plug temp drop, Overkill tune with tweaking after. Maybe someday an XP cam with all the required mods.

And thirdly, I don't remember. I'm sure I'll remember it sometime and repost here.

well, realistically the blower is damn near indestructible. if its destroyed someone did something very bad to it. however, before it hits the motor it would be a good idea to change the coupler and oil in it and inspect it for play.

what do you mean by fuel sender? the fuel pump? yours will hold up just fine so dont even worry about replacing it.

go ahead and remember. ;)

Okay! I have two additional questions. But, I still haven't remembered what the third one was lol.

I just got done reading Reptile's octane thread, and since the compression ratio is higher on a N/A engine, would 93 be favored over 87 octane? Or would 87 suffice?

And, open to anyone, is there a good reputable garage or tuner around the Kansas area? I don't have the first clue when it comes to tuning, and have hard time trusting people sometimes.

once you go boosted, do not put anything in the car besides premium or you're asking for trouble. seriously.

Well I understand that Bio, but some gas stations have different premium octane ratings. Some use 87 as premium and some use 93 as premium. That is why I was asking a specific octane rating.

Okay, sounds good. I wasn't really looking for a "premium" name, but more of a rating.

Thanks Bio for answering my questions. Still need a good tuner person.

You don't go by the name of the octane...you go by the rating.

91+ or bust...or you'll get predetonation.

New question!

I read in the porting of a s/c, that it's only a good idea on genIII's. And not to do it to a genV. Reasoning? I know the genV are more "optimized" but I would like more info.

the outlet is about as good as it's going to get. the inlet could be worked on a little, but most of the time it's not worth even touching it since peoples setups arent that extreme.

I see... I didn't want to port it just for the whine, but the whine was part of it. But I won't worry about porting it. Just replace the oil and coupler.
